Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Evaluation of interfacial tension in the liquid aluminum alloy-liquid slag system(2017) Suchora-Kozakiewicz, Magdalena; Jackowski, JacekIn the present paper, the results from investigations regarding interfacial tensions present at the borders of a liquid aluminum alloy and two selected melted fluxes (mixtures of salts) are presented. The fluxes feature solidification characteristic curves that are very close to each other as well as differentiated chemical compositions. For the comparative investigations, the so-called surface property index (WS) is calculated for both fluxes with the use of the ion theory of slags. The investigations of the interfacial tensions were conducted on a stand that enabled the measurement of the force values accompanying the tearing-off of the probe from the interfacial surface. A very clear relationship between the interfacial tension values and the WS index values that characterize both fluxes was found. An increase in the WS index value resulted in an increase in the investigated interfacial tension values. It was also found that, in both cases under investigation, an increase in the system temperature value resulted in an increase of the values of the interfacial tensions present within. In the conclusion, we state that the metallurgical treatments (for instance, the recycling of the cast metal composite materials by way of component separation) should be conducted with the use of salt mixtures (fluxes) characterized with WS index and melting temperature values as low as possible.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Heterogeneity of glass components in slag after nickel acquisition process from Kola Peninsula (Russia)(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2017) Kasikov, Aleksandr Georgievič; Huber, Miłosz A.; Majorova, Ekaterina; Rakitina, Elena Ûrʹevna; Grišin, Nikolaj Nikitovič; Neradovskij, Ûrij NikolaevičThe problem of the disposal of metallurgical slags in the copper-nickel industry also remains open in the Kola Peninsula area, where this kind of exploitation and processing of sulphide Cu-Ni deposits is conducted. The urgent need is to reuse the waste slag heaps through the effective manner of their use based on our available technologies. The slag obtained after processing sulphide copper-nickel ores in the Kola Peninsula contains about 4 wt.% of the ore. The chemical and mineral composition of the slag plays a key role when considering the possibility of its re-use in the context of environmental nuisance. The line of processing Cu-Ni sulfide deposits from the slag proposed by the authors is based on the ability to change the slag phase composition by its oxidation and reduction processes for the enrichment of ore mineralization for reuse.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Ocena właściwości buforowych kwaśnych żużli z odzysku odpadów cynkonośnych w Bolesław Recycling Sp. z o.o., Bukowno(Data obrony: 2014-10-29) Wróbel, Dawid
Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaWaelz process is a method of zinc recovery from wastes containing this element. The main generated wastes in the Waelz proces are slags. The production of the „acidic” slag is caused because of silica sand used as a acidic flux. The sulfuric acid is formed during the oxidation of sulphides present in the slag. This acid may increase the heavy metals mobility in the environment. These wastes also contain neutralizing minerals protecting the acidification of environment. It was found that the „acidic” slags generated by „Bolesław Recycling” have buffering capacity, very important parameter in the case of their used as aggregate.
