Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaIndustrial development has a significant effect on the environment and it might result in its pollution. One of the most disturbing aspects of this problem is the influence of heavy metals on land pollution. Despite of many research on this issue the impact of heavy metals on soil microorganisms is still unclear, as it depends on many different factors e.g. physicochemical properties of the element, morphological and physiological characteristics of the organism and its habitats. Many types of bacteria has created the defense mechanisms that enable them to survive in contaminated environments. The aim of this thesis is to present the influence of selected heavy metals on the metabolic activity of soil microorganisms. To illustrate this, both results of research: concentration of heavy metals in the soil and the amount of CO2 released from it has been summarized. Basing on them, it can be concluded that there is no clear correlation between the two factors.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Skażenie gleby metalami ciężkimi a aktywność metaboliczna mikroorganizmów glebowych na terenie Elektrociepłowni Łęg (Kraków)(Data obrony: 2012-09-28) Jarosz-Dopierała, Katarzyna
Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaEnvironment pollution affect biological system as a result of human activities, industrial and agricultural. This implies an increase in the concentration of heavy metals in different parts of the biosphere. Problem of impact of heavy metals on soil microorganisms is very complex and depends on many extracellular and intracellular factors, not only on the total concentration of heavy metals in soil. Microorganisms which enter into composition of the community differ in a metal sensitivity. Mutagenic level of metals in soil can detrimentally affect of population size, diversity and activity of soil microorganisms. For this purpose, microorganisms have a number of strategies for reducing the toxicity of metals in their surroundings. In the experiment impact of Zn, Cd, Cu, Cr- determined depending on the soil microorganisms metabolical activity. The incubation period significantly affected the amount of CO2 emitted from soil contaminated with heavy metals- respiration decreased with increasing the incubation period. The strongest inhibition of the gas production was detected by the influence of Cu ions.
