Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaThe aim of this study was the assessement of sorption properties of schwertmannite - a poorly ordered iron(III) hydroxysulphate, which is common in sulphide weathering zones. For this purpose, both natural samples from the Muskau Arch area and their synthetic analogues were used. The series of batch lead(II), chromate(VI) and arsenate(V) sorption experiments were carried out. It was stated, that synthetic schwertmannites exhibit distinctly better sorption properties . They were able to bind Pb(II) in the amounts reaching 350 mmol/kg, whilst the relevant value for natural samples did not exceed 216 mmol/kg. Maximum Cr(VI) and As(V) sorption reached 250 mmol/kg and 1350 mmol/kg, respectively for synthetic phases, while natural ones bound up to 187 mmol/kg and 887 mmol/kg, respectively. In general, innovative dressings should ensure wound exudate absorption, constitute an external barrier limiting the possibility of wound contamination and, importantly, also provide therapeutic properties. This work is focused on obtaining materials with potential use as dressings for treatment of difficult-to-heal wounds. The synthesis methodology of acrylic hydrogels modified with selected modifiers, i.e. arabic gum, nanogold, bee pollen and chamomile extract, was developed. Next, the sorption properties of the materials were determined as well as their behavior during the incubation in fluids imitating the environment of the human body. Additionally, the impact of such an incubation on their structure was evaluated by FT-IR spectroscopy. It was proved that the modifiers affected the sorption properties of hydrogels, i.e. samples with additives showed even approx. 2.5-fold lower swelling ability. In turn, incubation of hydrogels in simulated body fluids did not cause any rapid changes in pH, which may indicate the biocompatibility of the tested materials with the tested fluids. Thus, it may be concluded that the developed materials show great application potential for biomedical purposes and may be subjected to more advanced studies such as cytotoxicity assessments towards selected cell lines.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Właściwości sorpcyjne gleb z terenu aglomeracji miejskiej Rzeszowa(Data obrony: 2017-09-26) Dorosz, Magdalena
Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaPraca magisterska dotyczyła określenia właściwości sorpcyjnych gleb z terenu aglomeracji miejskiej Rzeszowa. Badania przeprowadzono na czterech próbkach gleb pobranych z różnych miejsc znajdujących się na terenie miasta w celu wyznaczenia w jak dużym stopniu gleby te sorbują oraz zatrzymują zanieczyszczenia, głównie trzy metale tj.: kadm, cynk i ołów. Wykonano oznaczenia parametrów fizykochemicznych, opis makroskopowy, określono skład chemiczny i mineralny oraz sorpcję i desorpcję. Opierając się na wykonanych analizach, stwierdzono, że gleby z terenu miasta Rzeszowa charakteryzują się dobrymi właściwościami sorpcyjnymi, gdyż sorbują one oraz zatrzymują duże ilości badanych metali. Praca została zakończona podsumowaniem oraz wnioskami.
