    The purpose of this study was report current standards of storing spatial data in relational databases and their implementation in common database managment systems. First chapter describes theoretical information, basic definitions and SQL’s language components. Next chapter presents mandatory standards in storing spatial data. Last chapter documents practical implementation of standards in free and comercial database managment systems.
