Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaMineralogical analysis has been carried out on 37 rock samples collected between 2008 and 2012 in M2 concession area, Gobi desert, southern Mongolia. Potential serpentinites thin sections have been described under a polarizing microscope with the use of transmitted and reflected light. Further X-ray and scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDS) analysis allowed to identify minerals and their chemical composition in detail. Serpentinites are mainly made of antigorite and consist some amount of ores such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, bornite, covellite, ilmenite, hematite, millerite, pentlandite and spinel group series (magnetite – chromite/Cr-pleonaste/picotite). As a result of petrological data processing, mineral succession has been determined. Occurring ores are connected to magmatic, metamorphic and hypergenesis phase.
