Wydział Geodezji Górniczej i Inżynierii ŚrodowiskaSince the seventies of last century the process of eutrophication gains the global scale because of negative ecological and economical consequences. The task of prevention from eutrophication is treated as a priority in EU water politic. Currently there is no uniform and universal methodology of water trophic status assessment. Various EU directives and documents do not specify the procedures for the assessment. The aim of this study is to choose the optimal criterion of eutrophication and to elaborate on its base such method of trophic assessment of running waters, which would allow to increase its reliability and accuracy, to reduce the costs of monitoring and would be a useful tool for solving the engineering problems in the field of water protection. This work presents: the detailed analysis of existing methods of trophic status assessment as the base for the selection of optimal criterion, which meets the modern requirements for environmental indicators; justification for the choice of the criterion for trophic assessment; the developed algorithm of long-term monitoring data statistical treatment; the correlation and regression analysis carried out in order to determine the nature of the relationship between the studied parameters in various types of running waters; the original methodology elaborated for the evaluation of running water susceptibility to eutrophication; the results of rivers’ trophic state assessment on the base of the selected criterion ITS and the verification of its usage in comparison with other existing methods of assessment. It has been proven the economic efficiency of running waters monitoring based on elaborated method of trophic status assessment.
