This is due to their low density, high strength properties, and advances in their production technology. Properties of magnesium alloys depend primarily on the type, quantity, and quality of elements present in their composition. It is therefore necessary to carry out research on the further optimisation of the production technology of these alloys. This article presents the results of studies carried out in order to determine the type, form, and parameters of the process of introducing selected alloying elements to magnesium in a manner which enables the manufacture of alloys with predetermined chemical composition. As part of the work, elements such as Al, Zn, Mn, Zr, Si, Cu, Ca, as well as rare earth elements (RE) were introduced into the liquid magnesium. The alloying elements were introduced into the melt at different temperatures in either a metallic form or as master alloys. While conducting studies, respective solubility graphs were plotted for the alloying elements showing the time taken for each element to dissolve to the required form at a specific temperature and concentration. The studies resulted in the development of several techniques of introducing selected alloying elements, which enabled the manufacture of various types of alloys.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Microstructure of TIG welded with selected magnesium alloys(2014) Tuz, Lechosław; Pańcikiewicz, Krzysztof; Żurek, ZbigniewAn evaluation of the macro- and microstructure of magnesium alloy tungsten arc-welded butt joints is presented in this paper. Al-Zn-Mn magnesium alloys are taken into consideration in the research. Their main alloying elements are zinc and aluminum, respectively. The dendritic microstructure of the base metal is obtained. The analysis shows that achieving good-quality butt joints of magnesium alloys is possible.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Modyfikacja powierzchni biodegradowalnych stopów magnezu w wodnych roztworach elektrolitów(Data obrony: 2013-07-12) Dróżdż, Dariusz

These results are confronted with the results of fatigue tests. The aim was to elaborate on the crack initiation and growth in the microstructure containing a stress concentrator and redistribution of stress during propagation.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Structure and properties of hot-rolled and annealed AZ61 magnesium alloy(2017) Sułkowski, BartoszMagnesium alloy AZ61 was processed by hot rolling up to a large thickness reduction (~89%) in several routes with intermediate annealing. The hot rolling process was conducted at 450°C and at a 1.5 s−1 strain rate. The structure and texture evolution as well as the mechanical properties during processing were investigated. The structure studies showed that, during the hot-rolling process, a large number of twins formed, which had an impact on the mechanical properties of the hot-rolled samples. After annealing for 15 minutes, the twins were no longer observed in the annealed samples, causing a significant decrease in hardness. Moreover, an investigation of the hardness showed that annealing for 15 minutes did not remove all of the hardening effects nor did the hardness of the annealed samples decrease to the value before hot rolling. The texture investigations showed that the texture of the hot-rolled samples was a typical basal-type texture. However, the basal pick was split into two tilted towards the rolling direction (RD). The texture changed during annealing while the new strong texture components evolved. The annealing led to an increased intensity of <1010>{1120} texture component and enhanced ductility. It was concluded that the texture changes observed in the present investigations may lead to the enhanced ductility of magnesium alloys and, therefore, help us design a deformation scheme for magnesium alloys consisting of several thermomechanical routes.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Theoretical analysis of the AZ31 magnesium alloy deformation process by a modified method of angular extrusion(2015) Bajor, Teresa; Krakowiak, Marlena; Berski, Szymon ArkadiuszThe paper presents the results of the numerical modeling of a chosen magnesium alloy deformation process by a modified method of angular extrusion (AE). The research was made using a die with a circular cross-section, where the channels were arranged at right angles relative to each other. The modification concerned the differing values of applied unit strain obtained by changing the material enter/exit diameter ratio. The extrusion process was analyzed for several temperature-velocity variants. The aim of this work was to determine the most favorable conditions of the extrusion process that result in the most uniform stress and strain distribution in the material.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Zastosowanie powłok biopolimerowych do ochrony przed korozją stopów magnezu(Data obrony: 2018-07-19) Buras, Patrycja
