Efektywne algorytmy automatycznej dyskretyzacji nietrywialnych trójwymiarowych form geometrycznych oraz ich obiektowa implementacja

The task of the mesh generator is partitioning of the given geometric domain into a finite number of simple elements, conforming to requirements specified by user (e.g. type of elements, size, stretching or quality). The main contribution of this thesis is the development and optimization of an automated generator of unstructured anisotropic surface and volume meshes. The triangular meshes are created on parametric surfaces using a modified technique of incremental Delaunay triangulation. The anisotropic characteristic of mesh elements was obtained using non-Euclidean metric via the developed system of coordinate transformation. For three-dimensional problems, tetrahedral meshes can be generated using similar technique. The proposed improvements allow increasing the efficiency of discretization and enhancing the procedure of boundary constraining, which is one of the main problem of 3D Delaunay triangulation. Generation of meshes (both two- and three-dimensional) is realized using a special control space structure, responsible for delivery of a desired size and shape of mesh elements in any point of the discretized domain. There is presented an automated schema of discrete control space creation, taking into account a number of metric sources gathered automatically or obtained from the user. There are also presented numerous examples and experimental analysis of the computational and memory complexity of the subsequent phases of mesh generation and transformation.

New method for data replication in distributed heterogeneous database systems

In the dissertation author focuses on data replication in distributed systems, defining the following thesis: "It can be revealed that Theta replication method, which enables concurrent transactions processing without necessity of usage of distributed locks, provides non-conflicting and highly scalable technique for data replication in heterogeneous database systems". For the purpose of the work and such thesis author conducted series of research tasks. There was designed a new method for data replication, called Theta method, which can be successfully applied for a set of systems with distributed middleware tier. Theta replication method is designed for high availability multi-tier architecture with distributed middleware. Author performed a prototype implementation of the method as well as conducted an evaluation of the method both in simulation environment and in real world system used for continuous monitoring of the Internet.

On efficient implementations of median filters in theory and in practice

The median filter, in its scalar and vector form, is a classic tool for suppressing impulse noise from images. In this paper we present a theoretical algorithm for worst-case optimized scalar median finding and an efficient implementation of the vector median filter (VMF). The former has not better complexity than two existing algorithms, but matches them for some relation between L and r, and is obtained using means which are novel in this context. The latter achievement is a simple practical idea which, for large enough masks, speeds up the standard (naive) implementation of VMF several times. We also presented results of a multi-threaded implementation, run on multicore machines.

Usage of dedicated data structures for URL databases in a large-scale crawling

The article discuss usage of Berkeley DB data structures such as hash tables and b-trees for implementation of a high performance URL database. The article presents a formal model for a data structures oriented URL database, which can be used as an alternative for a relational oriented URL database.
