    Refining edges to sub-pixel level in images of molten metals and alloys

    In this paper problem of edge detection in images of heat-emitting objects is regarded. In the considered images edges are significantly blurred due to the thermal effects. The method for improving quality of edge detection is introduced. The proposed approach determines edges with sub-pixel accuracy. The main concept of the proposed method is to create continuous functions out of the image derivative values. Results of applying the proposed method to images of heat-emitting specimens of metals and alloys are presented and discussed.
