These images were recorded during sliding of the samples of PTFE composites in pin-on-disk tribotester. The sequences show variations of thin layer of transferred composite material - so called »transfer film« - important in sliding friction process. The applied methods of noise evaluation and filtration and the method of binarization threshold calculation - based on image percentiles are described. Binary image features - showing transfer film changes - are defined and extracted. The function aproximation of experimental data are made. These images, made on steel disk by friction of PTFE composites, are of oriented structure. The so called »transfer film« consists of dark, thin smudges and the irregular spot-like objects. Taking into account the oriented image structure several features have been proposed based on analysis of the image projections (Radon transform). The top-hat transform was utilized to enhance local maxima - both in projection functions and in images. One-dimensional projection functions and an image as a whole have been binarized by using statistics-based thresholds.
