Badania przypowierzchniowych warstw geologicznych metodą GPR w warunkach znacznego zawilgocenia

The GPR method as a non-invasive geophysical method is often used to identification of subsurface layers. The main aim of this paper is to show the usefulness of GPR method for distinguishing subsurface layers under conditions of considerable moisture. The first part of the paper deals with historical survey of GPR equipment and the laws that govern the apparatus. Then, the paper presents and describes the hardware and software that is used for testing. Next section gives a description of the geology of the test site and the research in Brzezno, district of Gdansk, is shown in detail. Finally, a detailed analysis of the collected GPR data is presented. The interpretation of GPR data shows the range of peat deposits and shows the extent of subsurface sediments in the various conditions of considerable moisture. The paper also presents the software that was used in this work for proper interpretation of the data. Results and conclusions clearly show the usefulness of GPR surveys for investigation of subsurface layers under conditions of considerable moisture.

Malakofauna osadów jeziornych torfowiska Gajlik na Pojezierzu Sejneńskim (północno-wschodnia Polska)

Malacological analysis was conducted on snails and bivalve shells present in calcareous gytia and lacustrine chalk of the Gajlik mire in the Sejny Lake District. Thirteen species of water molluscs were identified within six analyzed samples. Changes observed in the structure and composition of molluscs, supplemented by palynological data, and the results of radiocarbon datings allowed for the reconstruction of the mire's evolution during Late Glacial and Early Holocene period. Molluscs' shells occurred solely in sediments associated with warmer periods (interphase Alleröd and Preboreal-Boreal phases of Holocene). Additionally, they were not present in sediments associated with cold Late Glacial periods.

Torfowiska orawskie jako światowy fenomen przyrodniczy - próba ustalenia ustawowych zasad ich przyrodniczej ochrony

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie torfowisk znajdujących się w Kotlinie Orawsko - Nowotarskiej pod względem geologicznym, jako unikalnych ze względu na ich lokalizację nietypową względem innych tego typu formacji w Polsce i na świecie, na co wpływ ma ich budowa, położenie geograficzne oraz warunki klimatyczne panujące na tym obszarze. Równie istotne jest podkreślenie walorów przyrodniczych i naukowych tych torfowisk. W pracy przedstawiono istniejące formy ich przyrodniczej ochrony jak również propozycje mające na celu jej pogłębienie. Zawarto również propozycje rozwiązań mających na celu geoturystyczny rozwój regionu w kontekście ich postępującej rewaloryzacji.
