Celem pracy było zbadanie i opisanie jego budowy, funkcjonalności oraz ewentualnego wpływu na wydajność programów. Aby sprawdzić, jaki narzut nakładany jest na uruchomione procesy przeprowadzono testy porównujące wydajność operacji CPU, pamięci i na dysku twardym w kontenerach i natywnym systemie operacyjnym. In the case of IT structure (which is present in almost every field of activity these days), one of the most commonly applied technologies leading to good cost-to-profit adjustment is virtualization. This allows the location of several operational systems with IT systems on a single server. In order for such an optimization to be carried out correctly, it has to be strictly controlled by means of allocating access to resources (which is known as performance isolation). Modern virtualizers allow us to set up this allocation in quantitative terms (the number of processors, size of RAM, or disc space). It appears, however, that in qualitative terms (processor time, RAM, or hard disc bandwidth), the actual allocation of resources does not always correspond with this configuration. The production environment has been switched from a commercial batch system PBSPro, which was replaced by an open source alternative Torque batch system. This paper concentrates on two aspects of this transition. First, we will present our practical experience with Torque being used as a production ready batch system. Our modified version of Torque, with all the necessary PBSPro exclusive features re-implemented and further extended with new features like cloud-like behaviour, was deployed across the entire production environment, covering the entire Czech Republic for almost a full year. In the second part, we will present our work on meta-scheduling. This involves our work on distributed architecture and cloud-grid convergence. The distributed architecture was designed to overcome the limitations of a central server setup, which was originally used and presented stability and performance issues. While this paper does not discuss the inclusion of cloud interfaces into grids, it does present the dynamic infrastructure, which is a requirement for sharing the grid infrastructure between a batch system and a cloud gateway. Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaDynamic development of virtualization and computer hardware allowed effective use of this technology. The purpose of this study was to apply known virtualization techniques for the construction of the geoinformatic laboratory infrastructure, designed for student’s classes and research. At the beginning, used technology was present from theoretical point of view. The rest of paper is mainly focused on the use of virtualization in practice. In order to create virtual infrastructure different types of software were used and tested. Obtained results allowed recognizing the pros and cons of applied solutions and answer the question, if the standard approach can be replaced by virtualization technology and to what extent.
