Therapeutic waters as geotourism values of the Polish Baltic sea coast
(2012) Krawiec, Arkadiusz
The oldest spa towns in the Polish Lowland have developed on the basis of brines from which salt used to be refined. This article presents conditions for the occurrence of medicinal (therapeutic) waters on the Polish Baltic Sea coast. It discusses the development of naturopathy in the area and presents brine water intakes and their utilisation. Moreover, the main tourist attractions of the spa towns and chances for the development of health tourism in the area are enumerated.

Eden Project - the Cornwall Peninsula peculiarity
(2012) Baczyńska, Elżbieta; Lorenc, Marek Wojciech
The Eden Project-the largest natural scientific complex - was established in 2001 in the surroundings of Bodelva situated in the southern part of Cornwall (Great Britain). It was created in a kaolin pit closed down in the XlXth century. This venture has three main functions: natural, educational and touristic. The project presents unusually interesting and original architecture. Under light-transmitting, semicircular domes there are various ecosystems called biomes which differ from the external environment. The entire project consists of the following parts: the Mediterranean biome, the rainforest biome, a unit called 'the Core' and the visitor centre. The area where all the buildings are located is covered by the external biome. The Eden Project is a huge educative institution which reflects processes occurring in the nature. The aim of this venture is, above all, education of ecological aspects concerning life on the Earth and presentation of the necessity to preserve the biodiversity. Since its opening, the Eden Project has been visited by 1.2 million tourists every year.

Benefit tourism - a new concept of the phenomenon an terminology issues
(2012) Różycki, Paweł; Kąkol, Katarzyna
Benefit tourism is a disputable term. This follows from the fact that the definition of tourism even by UNWTO somehow excludes activities whose aim is to gain financial profit from tourist activities. In the fast changing world we are forced to pose a question whether tourism should still be considered as a relatively narrow concept. While leaving their country for work people also get to know the culture of a visited place since they go sightseeing and, most importantly, they mingle with the natives, and through this they get to know the visited country better. Traditional tourism, especially for those unprepared, does not give a chance to experience the real aspects of the visited country. In commercialized tourism a tourist often gets a distorted picture of the region he/she is visiting. Therefore, a proper preparation (education) together with a right attitude of a person leaving his/her country for work, may be a chance to get to know a different culture, gain a new experience and make a network of contacts. Despite numerous dysfunctions resulting from e.g. separation from a family, the phenomenon has also positive aspects because except from getting to know different regions of the world an economical aim is also accomplished and owing to it, people interested in tourism may either in the future or during weekends pursue their tourist hobbies.

A trail of storms imprinted in Triassic rocks on the touristic path - an example from Grodziec (Dąbrowa Basin, southern Poland)
(2012) Gawęda, Aleksandra; Vierek, Aleksandra
The Upper Silesia -Dąbrowa Basin is one of the highest industrially transformed regions in Europe. However, places of geotouristic value are still preserved and should be protected. One of them is the abandoned 'Kamionka' quarry and nearby St. Dorotahill, knownas 'local Olympus' with historical monuments, located in the Grodziec district of Będzin. The profile of Triassic limestones, dolomitized limestones and marly dolomites belong to so called Gogolin Beds and represent the sedimentation typical of sea transgression with numerous changes in water energy, up to stormy sedimentation, imprinted in rock textures and sedimentary structures. Both proximal and distal tempestites are found here. Local bioturbations are indicative for breaks in storm activity and low-energy sedimentation. In general, the carbonate sediments of Grodziec district were formed in shallow basin, on the carbonate ramp, influenced by storms and/or bottom currents. The link between the history of that area, geomorphology and geological features makes that area of special importance for geotourism.

(2012) Birówka, Mateusz
The „Geotourism” Special Interest Group of the Student’s Scientific Association at the at the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environment Protection, AGH-University of Science and Technology has been active since almost 10 years. During this time the association has attracted tens of enthusiasts interested in geotourism. Recently, over twenty ambitious, hungry for knowledge colleagues are active in our group, most of them studying the Tourism & Recreation and Geology & Mining Engineering courses.
