Remarks on elements of Japanese landscape and their geotouristic attractiveness
(2012) Myga-Piątek, Urszula
For western tourists Japan is a mysterious country. That mystery was further increased by relatively long-lasting political isolationism, which consequently resulted in tourism isolationism. With tragic events - a 9-magnitude earthquake and a resulting gigantic tsunami, reaching 10 meters in height (11.03.2011) in the background, the author will analyze the geotourist potential of Japan. It can be predicted that, paradoxically, the strong earthquake and tsunami will soon result in an increased inflow of tourists. That might be related to the development of many new forms of geotourism, among which dark tourism became most and most popular. In this highly urbanized country, the geological heritage creates relict landscapes which could be referred to as quasi-natural. There are very interesting from a tourist point of view. The article was based on the author's own observations during her study trip around Japan in May, 2009. The journey around picturesque and to a great extent wild, as for Japan, spots of Shikoku and Honshu, inspired the author to present a few notes regarding the geotourist attractiveness of that country. This is an attempt to assess the environmental potential from the point of view of an European tourist.

Methodological aspects of research on tourist activity - new concepts
(2012) Różycki, Paweł
Research on tourist activity is considered to be particularly troublesome. Due to the lack of one, coherent definition of tourism there occur considerable problems the results of studies carried out in various research centres are compared. The intensity of the problem increases in the case of the research on tourist activity in physical culture, sociology and psychology. In this study a new, so far not applied, definition of tourist activity is presented. It could be helpful in research on tourism, based on criteria of distinguishing between tourists. A subjective criterion allows us to distinguish between people who feel they are tourists, and who subjectively feel that what they do can be regarded as the phenomenon of tourism.

Management of tourist values on the example of the Mstów commune
(2012) Wolski, Oskar; Różycki, Paweł
The management of tourist values is not an easy issue. It seems that the presence of specific cultural premises, exceptional landscapes and landforms is sufficient to attract tourists. Unfortunately, this is a very complex problem, requiring numerous treatments, knowledge and skills of decision-makers. Development trends of communes, towns and entire regions are determined by various issues, sometimes independent on the will of the residents and local authorities. The key issue seems to be finances. Before a tourism product is developed and it appears in the minds of tourists, and before the area becomes a real tourism region, the expenses must be incurred for ' development and promotion of attractions. An example of the commune having aspirations for tourism development is Mstów located in the vicinity of Częstochowa. Location and diversified tourist offer in the future can be the magnets for tourists coming to Częstochowa or traveling through the northern part of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. It is also important to develop new tourist trails in the area of commune. Also, support from the government, even without significant funding at the moment, is an important stimulus for the development of various forms of tourism.
