    An application of a Raman scattering analyzer for the determination of natural gas composition at a processing plant

    The development of conventional and unconventional natural gas reservoir management includes continuous monitoring of hydrocarbon exploitation processes and its impact on the reservoir and environment. Raman spectroscopy, which allows for the identification of reservoir fluids (including natural gas) components can be a very promising method for the application of providing a quick, non-invasive, nondestructive analysis.The proposed in this paper measurement methods are focused on the use of: – a laboratory cell (autoclave) with sapphire window mounted on a specially prepared bypass pipeline; – a dedicated Raman probe mounted to the available installed stub pipe; – the construction of a special measurement cell.The article presents the basic technical assumptions for measurements of the composition of natural gas with the use Raman spectroscopy.

    Tightness of hydrogen storage caverns in salt deposits

    The problem of rock salt massif tightness concerns all stored media. It is particularly important in the case of hydrogen, because of the small size of its molecules. Preliminary results of selected permeability tests performed under the project Hestor are discussed in the paper. The results of numerical calculations determining a potential range of gas leakage are also presented.

    Determination of mechanical parameters of salts in the cyclic load processes corresponding to the operation of a storage cavern for hydrogen

    The paper describes the results of laboratory tests of the strength of salt samples made as part of the HESTOR project in order to determine the mechanical parameters of salt. The tests were carried out using an Autolab 2000 apparatus which allows to simulate any load cycles. The tests were made by simulating the operation of the hydrogen storage cavern. In order to observe the differences in salt behavior depending on the sample medium being stored during the test, gases were supplied: nitrogen, as an analogue of natural gas, and helium as a hydrogen analogue.

    The stand for laboratory tests of loose materials

    The paper describes a laboratory stand for tests of properties of bulk materials. It can be helpful for select proppants and materials for bedding layer. Tests were carried out according to Eurocode-1 norm, which required the construction of laboratory to allow the appointment of the angle of internal friction and external friction of granular materials in accordance with the Jenike procedure. The results obtained during the experiments allowed us to compare properties of various materials and a summary of the results obtained with the values quoted in the literature.

    Possibility of energy storage in salt caverns

    In this article the methods of energy storage in salt caverns in the form of hydrogen, compressed air and natural gas were compared. Also the general issues concerning the geological, ecological and legal requirements for the storage of substances in rock salt deposits as well as the possibility of analyzed substances storage in the Zatoka Gdańska region and in the Goleniów salt dome were discussed. Moreover the suggestions concerning management of the brine coming from caverns leaching were also presented in this article.

    The possibility of applying CAES technology in Polish conditions

    In this paper were described the possibility of energy storage in salt caverns in Poland, using the technology CAES (Compressed Air Energy Storage), taking into account the natural conditions and parameters of existing power plants in the world. Focusing primarily on the storage part of such an installation, made initial selecting potential areas in the Poland enabling comprehensive execution of the installation - part of the ground (wind turbines, installation, gas turbine) and part of the underground (salt cavern).

    Compressed air energy storage as backup generation capacity combined with wind energy sector in Poland - implementation possibilities

    Wind energy sector has been developing at a fast pace in many countries around the world in recent years. However, there is an issue with the unpredictability of electricity production provided by wind turbines that is caused by variability of weather. Therefore, there is need to compensate the intermittency of wind energy by means of backup power generation facilities. One of the solutions is compressed air energy storage technology (CAES). The paper discusses the CAES technology characteristics as well as economic aspects of CAES plant construction and operation. The latest achievements and developments in the field of CAES technology is presented. The paper inspects the existing CAES facilities and discusses the possibilities of implementing this technology in Poland.
