Documentation and Assessment of Geosites for Geotourism and Geoparks

The e-textbook is a comprehensive academic study that discusses the fundamental principles of documenting and assessing geoheritage. It focuses on the protection, promotion, and access to geosites, and issues related to geotourism such as the design of geoparks, geotourism attractions, and geotourism products according to sustainable regional development principles. The terminology related to geoheritage is clarified, and methods and tools for geoeducation are outlined. The e-textbook also explores the management of geosites for scientific, educational, and economic purposes. It was developed by a team from the Department of General Geology and Geotourism at the WGGiOŚ AGH University of Krakow in collaboration with employees from domestic and foreign geoparks. This resource is meant for students, teachers, tourist guides, as well as professionals involved in the promotion, management, and regional development of geosites.

Problemy badawcze georóżnorodności w geoturystyce

The richness and diversity of physical features of nature known as geodiversity is a new issue of research in geosciences. Increasingly, it is analyzed in terms of usefulness in the study of the natural environment and impact of geology and geomorphology on biodiversity. The definition and methodology of geodiversity is ambiguous and still subject to discussion. The article summarized current knowledge in this field and presents the application of the assessment of geodiversity in geotourism emphasizing research problems associated with it.

Criteria of geotourism valorization specified for various recipients

The following paper presents methodology of valorization of geotourism objects adapted to meet the expectations and needs of various groups of potential recipients: tourists (casual, witting, hobbyist), educators (school teachers, academic staff, guides, organizers) and investors (owners, managers). Any geotourism object can be valorized using four principal categories of criteria: visual, cognitive, functional and investing. Each category is evaluated separately and selection of particular criteria depends on the needs of given recipient.

Geoturystyka i geoedukacja w rezerwacie przyrody nieożywionej »Prządki« im. prof. Henryka Świdzińskiego

The »Prządki« inanimate nature reserve is one of the most recognizable and documented geosites of the Outer Carpathians. The history of research, protection and tourism has a long tradition here. It is also an object with great geotourism potential, due to well-preserved and exposed sandstone rocky forms, legibly dissected microrelief, cultural and ecological connections, as well as ease of access and sightseeing of this geosite. The paper presents the possibilities of geoeducation against the background of its geological structure, geomorphology, impact on local history and biotic values. A range of subjects for didactics is proposed. The most visible features, as well as further possibilities of development and access to this object are indicated.

Las Gościbia krainą kaskad i wodospadów

The 'Las Gościbia' includes the northern slopes of Babica Mt. (Beskid Makowski) in the catchment area of a mountain stream called Gościbia. It is located within the Magura Nappe in the Siary Zone (Outer Carpathians). In the deeply cut valleys there is exposed continuously profile of the flysch deposits of Eocene-Oligocene age (Pasierbiec Sandstone, Zembrzyce Shale, Wątkowa Sandstone). The special value of the 'Las Gościbia' are cascades and waterfalls, which are numerous here in stream valleys. Their abundance, the heterogeneous nature and high aesthetic values determined a high educational and geotourist potential.

E-podręcznik jest metodycznym i praktycznym opracowaniem akademickim poświęconym omówieniu podstawowych zasad dokumentacji i waloryzacji dziedzictwa geologicznego, mających zastosowanie w ochronie, promocji i udostępnianiu geostanowisk. Przedstawiono zagadnienia związane z geoturystyką, w szczególności projektowaniem geoparków, atrakcji i produktów geoturystycznych w myśl zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju regionalnego. Uporządkowano terminologię dotyczącą geodziedzictwa, wskazano metody i narzędzia geoedukacji oraz zwrócono uwagę na możliwości zarządzania geostanowiskami dla nauki, edukacji i gospodarki. E-podręcznik został opracowany przez zespół pracowników Katedry Geologii Ogólnej i Geoturystyki WGGiOŚ AGH przy współpracy pracowników geoparków krajowych i zagranicznych. Skierowany jest do studentów, nauczycieli, przewodników turystycznych oraz pracowników instytucji i organizacji zajmujących się promocją, zarządzaniem oraz rozwojem regionalnym.
