Abstract
One of the still unsolved problems of the Tatra glaciations is the extent of the most extensive glaciation. The aim of the thesis is to define morphological and sedimentological criteria which can be used for distinguishing glacial sediments older than the last glaciation and determining the extent of Most Extensive Glaciation in the Tatra Mts. During the realization of this theses detailed field mapping of Quaternary landforms and sediments was made, conducted clast shape analysis on the basis of which inferred the transport environment of the sediments (19 sites), measurements of the largest granite boulders were made (1100 boulders) and also applied geomorphological analysis conducted on the base of high-resolution LiDAR DEM. Combination of results of clast transport paths and spatial distribution of boulder size suggest that boulders with a diameter larger than 1,5 (a-axis) m are typical till cover, what distinguishes them from fluvial sediments. In addition analysis of spatial distribution of boulder size shows that in the study area two zones of moraine sediments can be distinguished based on the number of big boulders which can be observed directly on the topographic surface, this indicates at least two ranges of glaciations older than the last glaciation. Proved also that the percentage reduction of glacier length between glacier length during the last glaciation and proposed extent of the Most Extensive Glaciation is close to an average reduction observed in the European Alps. Model of the Białka glacier from Penultimate glaciation was also made, results of research indicate that the extent of Białka glacier during the last glaciation was ca. 1000 m shorter than during older glaciations. The geometry of the Białka glacier from the Penultimate glaciation was similar to the geometry of this glacier during the last glaciation, however, larger thickness ca. 20 – 30 m of the glacier allowed transfluence of the glacier to Filipka Valley in the neighbourhood of Rusinowa Polana.
