Description

Abstract

The aim of the research is to analyze different model situations and to answer the question of how individual parameters of the model influence the inversion result and how the presence of a 3D object influences the result of the 2D electrical resistivity tomography method. The work uses numerical modeling for 2D object analysis and modeling in a geoelectric laboratory in the case of 3D object analysis. Using numerical modeling, it was found that the cylinder model can not be approximated by cuboid shaped model, it was also noticed that in the case of high resistance models, the "saturation" of resistance takes place and further increase in model resistivity does not cause changes in the inversion results. The results obtained by two inversion methods, the "Smooth" and "Blocky" inversion were also compared and the results obtained with the use of two measuring systems: Wenner - Schlumberger and Dipol - Dipol were compared. It was found that using “Blocky” inversion method and Dipol – Dipol array gives the best results. Modeling in the geoelectric laboratory allowed to conclude that 3D objects affect the results of 2D electrical resistivity tomography method even if they are not directly under the measurement line. For this reason, the 2D section obtained in the ERT method can not be treated as information coming directly from the measurement line, the interpretation must also take into account the influence of objects lying close to the measurement line.
