Abstract
This study is focused on deformations recorded in metasediments comprising Pinkie unit, which outcrops on Prins Karls Forland island (Svalbard archipelago, Arctic). The primary aim of this work is analysis of deformations and construction of geological model for the studied area, which will in turn help to identify methods and strategies for further studies. This is a part of large international project addressing questions regarding the origin of the Pinkie unit, its tectonometamorphic evolution and age. The Pinkie unit might have recorded an important event in geotectonic evolution of Svalbard and thus Arctic region. To date, the litostratigraphic position of the Pinkie unit and its relation to the country rocks is uncertain. Sampling and field measurements took place during AGH geological polar expedition to Svalbard in July 2015. Thin sections for petrographic microstructural analysis were prepared from oriented samples. Samples represent both the Pinkie unit and surrounding Grampian unit.
