Description

Abstract

The processes of the coalification of the organic matter in Carboniferous strata (Mississippian and Pennsylvanian) caused the formation and accumulation of methane. In LCB coal is isolated on low level and coal properties like the degree of transformation and the ability of sorption causes natural degasation. The values of methane does not exceed 2,5 m3 CH4/t daf., so coal mine „Bogdanka” is known to be a mine of I degree of methane hazard. Because of the low gas content of the bed, there is a low content of methane in the ventilation air. Methane, which is characterized by twenty times higher than CO2 greenhouse effect index, is considered the second most contributing to the greenhouse effect gas. CH4 emission form the coal mine „Bogdanka” is zero, so both locally and globally does not affect the deterioration of the environment, or deepen the greenhouse effect. However, for the sake of the environment measures are taken to maintain the emissions at a constant level.
