Description

Abstract

Podhale Basin is built of Mesozoic basement and carbonate formations. Geothermal waters of Podhale, thanks to their increased temperatures from 20°C to 90°C, can be exploited in heating, recreation and medicine. In Podhale region geothermal energy has the major use is a district heating, due to the existance of PEC Geotermia Podhalańska SA and also in balneorecreational centres. Podhale, being a pioneer in exploitation of geothermal waters, makes a good example of development in geothermal energy managing, because of presence of many geothermal systems and projects such as the biggest geothermal heating plant, over twenty geothermal balneorecreational centres and cascade system installation. Due to this information Podhale can be a basis of considerations about using geothermal resources in Poland.
