Description

Abstract

The aim of the project was to analyze the pore space of the sample and to examine the variability of the porosity values measured for 2D and 3D images. In the project, the object of research was the result of X-ray computed tomography (micro-CT) made on a specimen of sandstone. Using the scripts written in the Matlab program, the pore space was analyzed in terms of pore volume to the rock volume ratio, pore size and the degree of their connection. The largest share in the pore space of the sample was attributed to connected pores of the size from 105 μm3 to 106 μm3. A simulation was also performed on how the calculated value of porosity changes with the use of increasing number of 2D images. Analysis of the outcome showed that a reliable result can be obtained by examining the porosity from equidistant sections obtaining at least 5 % of the 3D image. In addition, anisotropy of porosity in the sample was observed as well as significant differences in the measured porosity in its various fragments.
