Abstract
The Cracow heat and power plant satisfies the city's energy demand by generating 460MW - electricity energy and 1547 MW - thermal energy. Such an enormous amount of energy produced is associated with significant emission of unwanted compounds into the atmosphere. Emitted substances occurring in the exhaust gases are mostly carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and dusts together with heavy metals. These compounds in too high concentrations in the atmospheric air have a negative impact on the environment. The heat and power plant uses the latest technologies to reduce harmful emissions. The reduction of NOx concentration in the flue gases is obtained using the primary methods - using low-emission burners and OFA systems, and the secondary method - using the system of selective catalytic reduction of NOx (SCR). Particularly electrostatic precipitators are responsible for reducing dust emissions. Sulfur oxides are removed through the wet desulfurization plant commissioned for use in 2015. Thanks to these measures, Elektrociepłownia Kraków is able to meet the requirements of the IED Directive and successfully limit the negative impact on the environment.
