Description

Abstract

The main subject of this master thesis was assessment of the nitrate reduction coefficient (NRC) in Kocinka’s river catchment. Concept of this coefficient was a part of the BONUS Soils2Sea EU project, which as a main goal has to create methodologies and processes allowing to reduce nutrients loading from agriculture to the Baltic Sea. NRC was developed from the three main maps: dominating lithology, dominating soils and artificial drainage based on available data in the ArcGIS. All maps were merged together to get the final NRC map for the catchment. The result map will be used to assume the amount of nitrates loading to the Baltic Sea for entire Poland. This knowledge will improve process description of nutrient retention in groundwater and surface water and improve nitrates issue recognition in the society.
