Idea of adaptation value stream mapping method to the conditions of the mining industry

Abstract

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję adaptacji metody mapowania strumienia wartości VSM (Value Stream Mapping) do warunków przemysłu wydobywczego. Metoda VSM była dotychczas powszechnie stosowana głównie w przemyśle motoryzacyjnym i przedsiębiorstwach stricte produkcyjnych. Wywodzi się z systemu produkcyjnego Toyoty (Toyota Production System TPS). W pracy podjęto próbę zdefiniowania pojęcia wartości i marnotrawstwa dla uwarunkowań panujących w kopalni miedzi. Metoda, którą poddano analizie pozwala na odwzorowanie przepływu materiału i informacji w systemie produkcyjnym. Przez strumień wartości należy rozumieć wszystkie czynności - zarówno dodające, jak i nie dodające wartości, które konieczne są przeprowadzenia produktu lub usługi przez główne przepływy wartości. Istotą mapowania strumienia wartości jest dostrzeżenie przepływu oraz marnotrawstwa, a także jego źródeł w strumieniu wartości. W pracy przedstawiono koncepcję algorytmu zbierania danych i dokonywania pomiarów, który pozwala na opracowanie mapy stanu obecnego. Zaprezentowano także przykład podziału operacji wykonywanych w kopalni na dodające i nie dodające wartości oraz porównanie potencjalnych przykładów występowania marnotrawstwa w kopalni z siedmioma podstawowymi typami marnotrawstwa występującymi w przemyśle motoryzacyjnym.

The article presents a concept of adaptation the Value Stream Mapping method (VSM) to the mining industry environment. VSM method is widely used mainly in the automotive industry and in manufacturing enterprises. The method stems from the Toyota Production System (TPS). The paper describes an attempt to define value and waste for the copper mine conditions. The analyzed method enables mapping and imaging the material and information flow in the production system. A value stream can be defined as all the activities - both value added and non-value added - required to take a product or service through a value flows. The core aspect of value stream mapping is to see the flow and waste, and its sources in a value stream. The paper discuses also an algorithm of observing and measuring the chosen process. The algorithm enables developing a current- state map. Examples of the process division into value-added and non-value-added activities and a comparison of 7 types of waste defined in the automotive industry with potential waste that can be noticed in a mine are also presented in the article.
