Geological mapping of the area of Thies-Taiba zone in Senegal based on remotely sensed images

Abstract

The thesis below covers process of geological mapping using spectral images of the Landsat 8 satellite. The research area is located in Senegal, in the north-western part of the African continent encompasses by the tropical climate. The research technique focuses on the processing of images from particular spectral channels and their interpretation based on known reflectivity characteristics of particular objects, rocks and minerals. The final stage of image processing is the classification of individual pixels into groups representing land coverings, including geological divisions.
