The level of trust determines the competitive position of financial institutions. That is why care about the best standards is the most important task for these institutions. Financial institutions are called institutions of public trust and thus high professionalism and more responsibility is demanded from them. This article presents basic problems concerning trust and institutions of public trust. The article is also an attempt to verify the statement that financial institutions are institutions of public trust.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Kapitał społeczny w europejskich welfare states(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2012) Masłyk, TomaszThe crisis of public finances in European countries, makes the idea of the welfare state is exposed to particularly harsh criticism today. It is not limited to emphasize the lack of effectiveness of these institutions. Also emphasizes the negative impact of welfare state institutions to the third sector - reducing the areas of civic activity, and thus, elimination of natural resources to generate social capital. Referring to this problem, the objective of this article is to present the facts - the abundance of social capital at the disposal of citizens representing five types of welfare states: Anglo-Saxon, Continental Conservative, Social Democratic, Post-communist and Southern European. The measurement of social capital was carried out taking into account its three dimensions: trust (individual and institutional), civic activity (bonding and bridging capital) and satisfaction with life (individual and institutional). The empirical analysis is based on data from studies earned out in 2010 under the European Social Survey.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Risk and trust. From research into eating practices in Poland(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2018) Straczuk, JustynaThe article discusses how risk and trust – interpreted as social phenomena characteristic of the late modernity era – are reflected in the concerns related to everyday food choices of residents of Poland. It postulates a link between the perception of food-related threats and the meanings associated with different food procurement practices, and the specifics of a local value system and its historical determinants. Based on the analysis of responses from 70 interviewees speaking about food-related concerns, it outlines diverse strategies for verifying food choices and the types of trust that are granted to various social actors who take part in the production and distribution of food. Such cooperation takes place within institutional surroundings which are defined by the laws and customs but it is also dependent on the social structure and the subjective functioning of social actors working in a network of common ties.
