Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , 127 lat geologii inżynierskiej(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2008) Kaczyński, Ryszard R.127 years have elapsed in 2007 since the publication of the first manual of engineering geology marking the historical commencements of this discipline. The beginnings, scope, competences and activities of engineering geologists over the years 1880-2007 are discussed. Two basic periods can be distinguished in the history of engineering geology: the first - till 1964 that is till the foundation of the International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) and the second one after 1964. The role of IAEG is coordinating and initiating engineering geological activities and its statutes define the scope of competences of engineering geologists. The beginnings and development of Polish engineering geology are discussed against the international engineering geological background. The report of the Joint European Working Group (JEWG) reviewed in the final part of the present paper defines the position of engineering geology among other geoengineering disciplines and such international bodies as ISSMGE (International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering) and ISRM (International Society for Rock Mechanics). Over the years engineering geology has become an independent discipline in scientific hierarchy equal to soil and rock mechanics.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , 2-DOF piezoelectric actuator controller based on FPGA(2013) Prusak, Daniel; Karpiel, Grzegorz; Gac, KonradThis article presents the method for controlling the piezolegs motor with the application of the FPGA (Field-programmable gate array) system and presents the results of conducted tests of the motor slider displacement, with various steering signal configurations. It includes also the review of piezoelectric motors solutions and characteristics of systems, based on FPGA systems. The production of aggregates, cheap, common, available building material is the answer for the economy's demand, including the construction industry. The time from political and economical transformation of 1989 is the example of cyclical downfalls, stabilizations and growth periods, even with insufficient supply times. There is a proven dependence between GDP and the demand for aggregates. Nowadays, aggregates are both natural (including crushed and sand-gravel aggregates) and artificial, including those from recycling. The quantitative majority of the former does not allow to ignore the latter. During last 20 years the aggregate industry gathered different experiences. From the processes of ownership changes, through technical and technological changes, implementing European standards of aggregate quality to becoming a decent player in the European aggregate industry. The paper presents experiences, evaluations and prognosis the come out of the activity of industry's leading organization - Polish Association of Aggregates Producers Employers that is closely related with the representative group of producers with different quality and quantity of production, but also different capital structure and way of functioning. The prognosis about market demand and production capacity is presented together with threats that may become obstacles in fulfilling the industry's most important task: providing the growing economy with aggregates. In the chronology way there is described how the advancement of GPR devices influenced in to the level of scientific works. This was made possible thanks to the discovery and exploitation of natural gas fields in Western Siberia, as well as the construction of transmission infrastructure - domestic and export pipelines. The history of the Russian gas industry is inextricably linked with the activity of Gazprom, the gas concern set up in 1989 in place of liquidated Ministry of Gas Industry. The article gives a summary of the 25-year history of Gazprom and its economic, social and political role. It discusses activities of the company on internal and external markets, issues of gas reserves, production and transmission, as well as the financial and political relationship with the authorities of the Russian Federation.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , 2D radar technology increasing productivity by volumetric control and hopper car positioning in brown coal mining(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2011) Winkel, Reik; Augustin, Christian; Nienhaus, KarlThe continuous brown coal mining technology has been highly advancing by mechanical design within the last decades. The driving factor has been the demand for increasing productivity and total availability. Indurad - the industrial radar company - addresses both of these factors with its solutions in increasing the utilization of mining machinery. Indurads technological solutions are helping to optimize the brown coal flow chain from across the. Starting at the excavators working bench (cutting depth control) via the belt transfer units (positioning), on the conveyor belt (volumetric flow) and finally to the stockpile volume scan (stockpile inventory control). The key for its solutions is a highly robust unique two-dimensional radar technology which has been specially developed for the rough mining environment. Within the paper successful applications are shown for the German brown coal mining as well as other solutions realized with Indurad's technology in the global mining industry.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , 3D modeling of electromagnetic-thermal phenomena in induction heated rotating steel cylinder(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2011) Kucharski, Jacek; Zgraja, Jerzy; Urbanek, Piotr; Frączyk, AndrzejW artykule przedstawiono numeryczny, trójwymiarowy model układu nagrzewania indukcyjnego obracającego się walca stalowego. Tego typu obiekty cieplne wykorzystywane są w różnych gałęziach przemysłu, a przedmiotem modelowania jest rozwijane w Katedrze Informatyki Stosowanej PŁ półprzemysłowe stanowisko badawcze. Omówiono podstawy teoretyczne modelu oraz metodę rozwiązania problemu pól sprzężonych: elektromagnetycznego i cieplnego, z uwzględnieniem nieliniowości wynikających z własności materiałowych elementów układu. Wykorzystując powstały model, przeanalizowano zjawiska zachodzące w przypadku nagrzewania walca ruchomymi wzbudnikami. W szczególności zbadano wpływ wzajemnego położenia pary wzbudników na rozkład mocy generowanej w płaszczu walca.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , 3D skeletonization of pulmonary airway tree structures(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2010) Postolski, Michał; Janaszewski, Marcin Sławomir; Jopek, Łukasz; Babout, LaurentQuantitative analysis of the human airway trees is a challenge in image processing and analysis. Results obtained in previous work on this subject are still not sufficient and they need improvements. Quantitative description of an airway tree consists in application of several steps: segmentation of the tree, skeletonization, decomposition and anatomical labelling, cross section generation and finally quantitative measurements. Each step needs to use different kinds of image processing algorithms. The most works were performed on different segmentation strategies, however skeletonization algorithms are still not enough tested and they require attention. Moreover, skeleton has very large impact on the quality of quantitative measurement of a bronchial tree. In the paper authors tested three skeletonization methods which are based on thinning - the most popular skeletonization approach. However, each algorithm uses different thinning strategy. The paper presents basic concepts of the algorithms and discussion about their primary features based on acquired results from real human CT images.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Item type:Movie, Access status: Open Access , Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A bi-objective mixed integer program for supplier selection(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2009) Sawik, TadeuszThe problem of allocation of orders for custom parts among suppliers in make to order manufacturing is formulated as a bi-objective mixed integer program. Given a set of customer orders for products, the decision maker needs to decide from which supplier to purchase custom parts required for each customer order. The selection of suppliers is based on price and quality of purchased parts and reliability of on time delivery. W celu syntezy regulatorów, stworzono i opisano model numeryczny, a następnie wykorzystano metodę symulowanego wyżarzania do znalezienia optymalnych parametrów. Tak zaprojektowane regulatory zostały przetestowane na rzeczywistym zbiorniku. W rezultacie okazało się, że zastosowanie regulatora niecałkowitoliczbowego rzędu do układu całkującego nie jest konieczne. In addition to heating and cooling, geothermal heat pumps can provide domestic hot water. They can be used for virtually any home size regions in any region of the Czech Republic. The use of heat from the upper layers of the earth's crust can be a useful and efficient method of saving energy. At around 50 m below the earth's surface the ambient temperature fluctuates between around 8-12 degrees of Celsius. This heat can be used by being transferred to the surface via a loop system using a high-efficiency refrigerant type material. These systems are also typically more efficient than gas or oil-fired heating systems. They are more energy efficient than air source heat pumps because they draw heat from, or release heat to, the earth, which has constant year's temperatures round, rather than to the air. Geothermal heat pumps use relatively constant temperature of the ground or water several meters below the earth's surface as source of heating and cooling.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A conceptual model for web knowledge acquisition system with GIS component(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2009) Ligęza, Antoni; Ernst, Sebastian; Nalepa, Grzegorz Jacek; Szpyrka, MarcinBuilding efficient tools for supporting Knowledge Acquisition and Knowledge Management is a challenge and hot research topic with potentially infinite numbers of applications. In modern computer science, the web technologies open a completely new chances for massive, distributed knowledge acquisition. Examples of such social phenomena as Wikipedia constitute a working proof of high potentials incorporated in the synergy of human and web interaction. This paper discusses certain issues concerning the conceptual model for a distributed knowledge acquisition system gathering and organizing knowledge on threats of various nature and aimed at improving safety of citizens in urban environments. The system for registering citizen-provided information is a part of the INDECT FP7 Project. Dawniej wykorzystywane w ekspertowych systemach regułowych, dzisiaj znajdują nowe zastosowania. Pomimo swojej dojrzałości wciąż aktualny jest problem wymiany wiedzy pomiędzy różnymi reprezentacjami i formatami reguł. Istniejące technologie nie dostarczają efektywnych metod, a ponadto zawierają skomplikowane modele reprezentacji wiedzy, co skutkuje brakiem wsparcia narzędziowego. Except storages located in depleted gas reservoirs salt caverns the attention deserve storages in mining-excavations. In this type gas storages it exists the problem of the seal of the rock massive. For that purpose comply different methods among other things the housing with the steel-cloak and the water curtain. Authors of the article propose the innovative method of sealing up of the rock massive at the use of plastics as composites. The article has a generał character because in practice this method was not applied. In opinion of authors this method seems to be interesting and effective.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A fully coupled solid and fluid model for simulating coal and gas outburst with DEM and LBM(2012) Wang, Yucang; Xue, Sheng; Xie, JunW niniejszej publikacji prezentujemy w pełni zintegrowany kod oddziaływania pomiędzy cieczą a ciałem stałym, opracowany do modelowania całego procesu wyrzutów węgla i gazu. Metoda elementów dyskretnych stosowana jest do modelowania deformacji i pęknięcia ciała stałego, podczas gdy metoda siatkowa Boltzmanna - do modelowania przepływu cieczy, w tym przepływu swobodnego i przepływu zgodnie z prawem Darcy'ego. Te dwie metody połączone są w procesie dwukierunkowym: część stała zapewnia warunki ruchomej granicy rozdziału, przenosząc pęd do cieczy, a ciecz wywiera opór na ciele stałym. Desorpcja gazu występuje na granicy oddziaływania pomiędzy cieczą a ciałem stałym, a do rozproszenia gazu dochodzi w kodzie ciała stałego, gdzie cząsteczki traktowane są jako materiał porowaty. Prowadzone są wstępne symulacje w celu sprawdzenia poprawności kodu.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A mechanical layered model of a vibratory mill(2010) Sidor, JanVibratory mills are applied in processes of mechanical production of powders, micropowders, nanopowders and nanostructures. The paper comprises a description of tube mills operation: vibratory and rotary-vibration ones. It also presents their application and construction description including two industrial mills elaborated at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. There is also a brief analysis of existing models of mechanical vibratory mills. The main part of the paper deals with a model of mechanical vibratory mill known as a layered model. The most important element is a quantitative view of the load movement (grinding media with material) in the chamber. The model also takes into account the whole mechanical system of the mill i.e. inertial vibrator, vibro-isolation system and drive. The model was elaborated for the purposes of the mill computer simulation. During the simulation there were accepted the same technological (grinding media, ground material, grinding process) and kinematic parameters of the mill as the ones that occur in a real object i.e. the laboratory rotary-vibration LAMOW-B-5/2 mill. The paper includes results of a computer simulation of the model. The final part of the work verifies the computer simulation on the same mill and at the same kinematic and technological parameters of the mill and grinding process. Positive results of the verification indicate some possibilities of its application in designing of industrial and laboratory vibratory and rotary-vibration mills.
