Anti-psychologism in Wittgenstein's philosophy in reference to theories of communication
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2013) Wendland, Michał
This article aims to investigate the validity of criticism of what is known as psychologist-transmission communication theory. It is accepted that theories which support the idea that communication is a process of conveying (transmitting) psychological content of the mental states between participants (e.g. theories of Jakobson, Hovland, Newcomb et al.) are examples of the approach. There are doubts about such views, which arise from the assumptions of anti-psychologism and anti-mentalism (such as Frege, Husserl), as well as the rejection of traditional notions of subjectivity in philosophy after the linguistic turn. In order to justify the criticism the position of the »late« Wittgenstein is invoked, according to which communication activities (as well as thinking, understanding etc.) need not be considered as correlated to mental acts.
Perspektywa czasowa a myślenie o przyszłości i przeszłości w kontekście teorii poziomów reprezentacji (construal level theory)
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2013) Barzykowski, Krystian
Paper presents Construal Level Theory- (CLT, Liberman & Trope, 1998, Trope & Liberman, 2003 ), which proposes that temporal perspective affects people's thinking about future events. Smaller temporal distance effects in more frequent representations of events in terms of concrete details. The greater temporal distance events are represented at a more abstract and general level. There are presented empirical findings suggesting that TCT can also pertain to episodic memory. Further importance, theoretical and empirical implications of Construal Level Theory are discussed. The author also raises questions and challenges for future research.
Miasto konkurencyjne jako koncepcja i jej realizacja w Polsce
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2013) Szczech-Pietkiewicz, Ewelina
The article presents theoretical aspects of urban competitiveness, with special emphasis on factors determining competitive position of cities. It discusses implications of the definition assumed by the European Commission in this respect, according to which competitive city is not simply an aggregated performance of its venues but also conditions created for growth and maintenance of high standard of living of its citizens. Based on the EC definition, a model of I. Begg is presented. The model shows relations between various groups of determinants of urban competitiveness and is further used to evaluate competitive position of Polish cities, elaborated with PwC, Cushman&Wakefield and UrbanAudit data. Based on this analysis strengths and weaknesses of Polish cities are pointed out, also with regards to their competitive strategies.
Bezinteresowni pasjonaci czy destrukcyjni amatorzy? Charakterystyka polskiej »sceny napisowej«
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2013) Łuczaj, Kamil; Hoły-Łuczaj, Magdalena
The article presents the results of research into one of the newest phenomena within popular culture, which is the »subtitles scene«. This term refers to creating free subtitles for foreign films and TV series that Poles download from the Internet. We investigated a community, which is engaged in this activity. Research carried out by an online survey in the beginning of 2013 showed, as it was cxpected, that it is a group of well-to-do, relatively young people, who have a good educational background and are associated with big cities. However, contrary to common intuitions, it turned out, that these people did not have linguistic education (the community of translators is dominated by people with technical education) and do not work in the creative industries. The other interesting issue is the complex system of motivation, which drive them to make Polish-language subtitles for free.
Walka Polek o gwarancję równości w polityce. Analiza dyskursu publicznego na temat wprowadzenia parytetu płci do ordynacji wyborczej
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2013) Strzemecka, Stella
The project is aiming at the quality analysis of a discussion about introducing the sex parity to electoral law and the observation of the parity bill. Selected press publications are the basis of the quality analysis (which was done according to the critical discourse analysis) taken from the most opinion-creating journals. The objective of this paper is to identify the discourse (civil, non-civil) of analyzed journals and the answer to the question: whether the legal guarantee for women (the parity bill) is a new type of a prejudice of the symbolic elite in the public discourse.
