O co tyle dymu? Kontrowersje wokół smogu w Polsce
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Grudowska, Joanna
This paper attempts to answer the question of what social problems the socio-technological hybridity of smog generates and what characteristics (causes and subject matter) the smog controversy acquire from the perspective of public and business actors. Smog is treated as a hybrid of knowledge and influence that is socially redefined in the form of controversy. Crucial is not the problematic nature of smog per se, but that which is generated by the involved materiality – technology and the interests of actors and their functioning within different knowledge systems. The generating, sharing and quality of air quality data as well as used measurement technologies are the subjects of public controversy over smog. The studied controversies can be found in the following areas: reliability of the provided data, quality and presence of measurement infrastructure, position in the market for air pollution information and differences in ontologies and competencies between laypeople and experts. This study was conducted using a controversy mapping method based on the desk research.
Użytkownicy aplikacji Too Good To Go i Foodsi jako obywatele w obronie dziedzictwa przyrodniczego?
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Zakusilo, Anastasiia
Postmodernity, with its disappearance of trade barriers, disintegration of traditional social structures, and the spread of ethics of consumerism, is seen by a number of sociologists as a challenge to social bonds, especially civic ones, based on the idea of common good. However, what is the role of mobile applications promoting the idea of zero food waste in the post-modern societies and thus referring to protection of the natural environment as the common good of mankind? The article explores the potential for environmental social bonds offered by applications Too Good To Go and Foodsi, and the social media groups that bring their users together. Based on the results of a quantitative study preceded by a content analysis of user groups on Facebook, the article answers the question of whether mobile applications can become the basis for social bonds. Applying theoretical perspectives on postmodern transformations and types of social bonds, the article aims to characterize the social bonds emerging through new media.
Zastosowanie dyskursywnych wywiadów i historii życia (autobiografii) w metodologii badań religijności senioralnej
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Choczyński, Marcin
The aim of this text is an attempt to develop the research tools known from the classic methodological findings of Władysław Piwowarski (parameters of religiosity) and to adjust them to qualitative methods of analysis. It is necessary to combine several theoretical and methodological perspectives here. Taking into account the specific features of senior religiosity, the implication of such solutions will allow for the deepening and real reflection of the specificity of religiosity of this community as well as regarding the experience of elderly people and the influence of contamination of that time on declarations of faith and the definition of self-religiosity. The concepts of an interview, a research situation and the concept of autobiographical narratives are strongly emphasized in the methodological literature, therefore it may be tempting to introduce these solutions in future analyzes and research projects.
Matka i córka wobec wojennej apokalipsy w świetle książki Anny Janko »Mała Zagłada«: trauma, pamięć, postpamięć
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Kapralska, Łucja
The article refers to the book by Anna Janko <i>A Little Annihilation: A Memoir</i> (<i>Mała Zagłada</i>) and its aim is to present how tragic events, although not experienced personally, affect the life of the next generation after directly experienced trauma. The author’s mother, as a child, was one of the few who survived the war massacre in the village Sochy and struggles all her life with the remembered cruelty of those events. Her daughter knows the war only from her mother's storytelling, through the intergenerational memory message, but she experiences similar syndromes to her mother. The literary narrative turns out to be a remedy for the experienced trauma of both generations – directly suffered by the war and the post-memory generation. By reporting on her mother's fate, Janko puts herself in the position of a descendant of the survivors, but also of a victim who must face with this inherited trauma. Moreover, as the social memory of the war is currently dominated by other narratives, Anna Janko's book takes the mentioned war events out of the margins of social memory.
