The research conducted among students of AGH led to the conclusion that stereotypical images that students have about Germany are shaped under the influence of mass media. Social definitions of disability carry responsibility for the marginalization of people with disabilities from the inadequacy of the individual arising from their physical deficits, to the level of macrosocial in changing attitudes, negative stereotypes and removing barriers in public space and social. The main aim of this article is therefore to show the relationship between the availability of specific urban space for the disabled, and made contemporary post-industrial revitalization areas. These investments are carried out in an era when human rights and equal access to space in the city are to be borne by the active environment are disabled and legitimation in the legal acts adopted by our country. Therefore, using the examples chosen deliberately wanted to show how the transformed spaces are available for disabled people. The analysis also took into account what are the functions of these areas today to see contemporary spaces of exclusion of people with disabilities in the postmodern city.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Social support networks – the importance of social networks for disabled people in dealing with difficult situations(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2018) Żuchowska-Skiba, DorotaThe main purpose of the article is to show social support of people with disabilities from a structural perspective. This perspective shows the relationship between the structure of social networks of people with disabilities and the actions they take in difficult situations. The very level of embedding of individuals in social networks is an important factor enabling them to benefit from social support and resources that are available in social networks. Without social relationships with people who form social environments of an individual, people with disabilities cannot rely on help in overcoming difficulties. Support is not possible without the presence of others who are willing to provide it. The analysis will be based on data collected in Social Diagnosis in 2015, which will allow reconstructing the size of social networks of people with disabilities in terms of their number of interactions with family, friends and acquaintances.Item type:Book, Access status: Open Access , Pracownik 2.0. We want to show how the tasks which are the result of the act of law are realized in practice, and what the role of the powiat in the civilization process is, according to the powiat authorities, the employees managing the Departments of Development and Promotion, the local councilors and the representatives of the biggest non-governmental organisations in the region. The civilization development has been defined very widely here, as directed social process in result of which a constant increase of some socially essential variables takes place. We have been interested in the influence that powiat has on the economic development, the labour market, the promotion of the region, creating infrastructure for the growth of the civilization potential, and the trans communal cooperation.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Family networks of people with disabilities and their role in promoting the empowerment of people with disabilities(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2018) Stojkow, Maria; Żuchowska-Skiba, DorotaFamily members are the key source of social, emotional and financial assistance for people with disabilities throughout their lives. However, the role of the family undergoes significant changes in different periods of the life of people with disabilities. During childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age, people with disabilities need other forms of support, which means that they undertake educational, professional or family activities related to starting their own families and bringing up children. Around that time, their relationship with the family is changing. The role of the family is becoming limited in the area of control and assistance in making life choices for people with disabilities.Our goal will be to reconstruct the family’s presence in social networks of adults and to identify socio-demographic and emotional factors that affect the number of contacts with the family. This will be the starting point for presenting the impact of family relationships on strengthening empowerment and promoting self-determination among adults with disabilities. The analysis will be based on data from Social Diagnosis 2015.
