Description

Abstract

Leaching of heavy metals from bottom sediments is strongly depending on the water pH value. Good buffering capacity of sediments is of great importance, because acidification of water can cause the increase of mobilized elements. In this work the immobilization of Cd, Zn and Pb, using phosphate salts and naturally occurring minerals, was carried out. The most effective immobilizing agents to be used for decreasing of heavy metals leaching were picked up. The ability of phosphate salts and minerals in heavy metals stabilization process was compared. The research indicated that the most effective agents for immobilization of Cd, Zn and Pb were $NaH_{2}PO_{4}$, natural kaolinite and $Ca(H2PO_{4})_{2}$, respectively. The substances caused reducing of leaching potential of Cd, Zn and Pb amounting to 91%, 69% and 100%, respectively.
