Description

Abstract

The Rudawy Janowickie is a mountain range about 18 km long. It is located in the eastern part of the Western Sudetes and covers the area of 90 km2. Ores of cupper, arsenic and iron were mined in this region from 12th till the beginning of the 20th century, additionally, uranium was extracted here in the second half of 20th century. The minerals which were an object of the exploitation still can be found in the dumps – the remains of those mining activity. The aim of presented study was the examination of primary mineralization of tailings piles in this area. Samples from two dumps were collected for analysis, from three of them thin sections were prepared and analyzed in microscope under reflected light. In analyzed samples 11 minerals, such as chalkopiryte, bornite, arsenopiryte, magnetite, hematite, piryte, markazit, bismuth, bismuth sulfosalts, titanium oxides and sphalerite, were found. However very rich and diverse, polymetallic mineralization occur the study area, most of the ore resources have been already mined so it is no possibility of deposits with economic value or no perspectives for further dumps exploitation.
