Abstract
Zachodzące w trakcie obróbki cieplnej i wypalania reakcje rozkładu termicznego, rekombinacji tlenków mieszanych Mg(Al)O, a następnie ich reakcyjne spiekanie prowadzące do powstania fazy spinelowej w temperaturze 700°C zapobiegły obniżeniu wytrzymałości mechanicznej materiału w temperaturach 300-1000°C.
Refractory materials are non-metallic materials or products (including those containing some metal) whose physical and chemical properties enable their use in high- temperature environments. The aim of this doctoral dissertation was to determine the mechanism of hydraulic bond formation in castables as a result of the hydration of matrix components at temperatures below 50°C, followed by the formation of a ceramic bond in non-cement and ultra-low-cement corundum-spinel refractories during firing at temperatures up to 1500°C. In the context of future material application, an additional objective was to determine the role of the amount, type, and composition of the spinel phase in shaping the physical, mechanical, thermomechanical, and corrosion resistance properties of the designed castable. The obtained results confirmed that hydration of the matrix containing alumina sol and deadburned MgO allowed the formation of Mg-Al layered double hydroxide. The thermal decomposition, recombination of mixed oxides Mg(Al)O, and subsequent reactive sintering leading to the formation of the spinel phase at 700°C enabled the reduction of mechanical strength loss in the temperature range of 300-1000°C.
