Abstract

Wykorzystano metodę analizy sieci społecznych (SNA), jednak ilość uzyskana danych okazała niewystraczająca do wyciągnięcia dalszy wniosków, mimo obiecujących wyników cząstkowych.

The doctoral thesis discusses the topic of leadership in self-organizing software development teams. The research goals set in the work were: identifying forms of leadership in self-organizing teams, checking the concept of shared leadership and the relationship of the formal leader with team members, as well as the achievements of a team working with agile methods based on team self-organization and the occurrence of shared leadership. The first part of the thesis is composed of a classic and systematic literature review examining the history of self-organization and the concept of leadership. The systematic review confirmed the existence of a research gap for leadership in self-organizing teams. The empirical research in the dissertation was qualitative and quantitative. Interviews were conducted with 16 experts experienced in agile methods and further analyzed quantitatively from the transcripts. Quantitative research was conducted on a sample of 77 responses from practitioners of agile methods. Social Network Analysis (SNA) was used, but the amount of data obtained was insufficient to draw further conclusions, despite promising partial results. A series of statistical analyses were performed along with structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicated a significant relationship between team self-organization and the team's perception of achievements. Team characteristics such as autonomy, redundancy, and learning enable the identification of the team's self-organization, as well as its positive correlation with the defined responsibility for the team. Strong vertical leadership negatively correlates with team self-organization. Unfortunately, the possibility of testing shared leadership using the SNA method has not been confirmed. However, the research conducted in the dissertation confirmed the importance of leadership for team self-organization and outlined further research directions.
