Abstract

Krakow is a city facing a big problem with air pollution, the use of energy accumulated in groundwater may contribute to reducing emissions of gases and dust to the atmosphere. The article analyzes the possibilities of using groundwater made available with intakes located in Krakow. Estimated water temperatures were ranging from 7.9 to 9.7°C. The thermal power that can be obtained in groundwater varies for individual intakes and allows for obtaining thermal outputs from 0.395 to 1108.035 kW, according to calculations. The analysis of groundwater chemistry in the Krakow region and their comparison with the recommendations of heat pump manufacturers indicates that the use of water as a lower heat source may in some cases cause technical problems.
