Geomechanical properties of shale rock from Baltic Basin in Poland area
    (Wydawnictwa AGH, 2015) Laura, Anastasiâ
The successful development of shale gas requires a fundamental understanding of shales and that can be challenging because these rocks vary significantly. For recoverable shale gas resources assessment a broad range of geological, geochemical, geophysical and geomechanical data is required. Information about the variable lithologies, mineralogies, and kerogen content is vital to locate favorable intervals for gas production. Knowledge of the in-situ stresses and porosity of these intervals is essential for developing hydraulic fracturing strategies to recover the gas in place. Geomechanical properties of shales are important in terms of determination of the likelihood of fractures initiating and propagating in shale materials. Geomechanical properties of rock include: Poisson's Ratio, Total Minimum Horizontal Stress, Bulk, Young and Shear Modulus. These properties play significant role in developing shale assets. Having access to geomechanical data can assist engineers and geoscientists during geomechanical modeling, hydraulic fracture treatment design and in some cases during reservoir modeling in shale gas fields. This paper is intended to give characterization of geomechanical properties of shale rock. It then refers to a case study of Baltic Basin of shale gas in Poland, for discussing it geological condition and rock properties.

Law of development turbulent non-isothermal jet flow in pit oil
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2012) Ajsaev, Satžan Uškanbaevič; Žapbasbaev, Uzak K.; Turegeldiyeva, Karlygash
This paper reviews development of turbulent non-isothermal round jet flow in pit oil. Increasing requirements for environmental protection challenge the oil industry to minimize the oil spill accidents throughout the production and transportation processes. Hydrodynamic interaction of pit oil with flow is in reasonable agreement with data of industrial tests. The authors prove law of development turbulent non-isothermal jet flow in pit oil. In this paper a mathematical model was designed and numerical simulation of turbulent non-isothermal flow in pit oil was performed. The mathematical method is based on the non-isothermal fluid flow in pit oil using solution of Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and equations of the k-symbol model of turbulence. The developed model has been validated with experimental data. Numerical simulation calculation results were found to be in reasonable agreement with data obtained from the experiments. Turbulent (molar) transfer is important in flow part and vortex zone of reverse flow. In the other part convection and molecular mechanism of momentum and heat transfer dominated. The developed mathematical model and numerical simulation methods are used to study the process of heating pit oil by hot fluid flow. In technical aspect it allows to determine the mass of heated pit oil which is used in thermo-mechanical technology of gathering spilled oil.

Emission of pollutants into the air during exploration of coalbed methane
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2018) Łukańko, Łukasz; Macuda, Jan
Coalbed methane is usually utilized by gas well drilled from the surface. In order to increase the coefficient of methane exploration from coal seams, in a horizontal section of the well, hydraulic fracturing operations are applied. Drilling process and hydraulic fracturing operations involve emission of pollutants to the air from the fuel combustion process. In the case of drilling operations fuel is used to generate electric power, which drives the drilling device and its components, while during hydraulic fracturing to drive high-pressure pump engines.

Assessment of the possibility of enzymatic decomposition of cellulose blockers
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2018) Turkiewicz, Anna; Kapusta, Piotr
The article discusses two series of the biodegradation tests of organic blockers used in drilling mud technology. Degradation process of the selected cellulose blockers in terms of quality was assessed by the colorimetric method. In all test solutions these tests revealed the presence of free glucose which is the final product of degradation of modified cellulose from which blockers were made. The beginning of the degradation process was noted already after 48 hours of the impact of enzymatic preparations on samples of blockers. The progress of the degradation process after 30 and 40 days of incubation was assessed by gravimetric method by draining sludge and marking blocker dry matter after enzymatic impact, comparing the sludge matter in samples with the specified enzyme to control samples without the addition of the enzyme. The research described in the work may be useful in the oil industry as they contain data (from laboratory-scale tests) on potential treatments with the use of enzymatic preparations. Detailed data on the degree of degradation of individual enzymatic preparations is included in the tables.

Impact of wells reconstruction on their operational parameters
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2018) Macuda, Jan; Styrkowiec, Ewa; Rajpold, Witold
Use of deep water-bearing horizons on an industrial scale is an expensive undertaking, mainly in the first phase of the project which is the well construction stage. Also, emergencies occur during the well operation, with the most frequent including yield reduction caused by the poor technical condition of the well. These frequently lead to the total decommissioning of the well, caused, for example, by backfill, filter damage or casing pipe damage. After conducting the proper diagnostics, a decision is most often made in such cases to reconstruct a well, and much less seldom to drill a new well hole. Reconstruction of water intake wells usually encompasses replacement of the entire filter column with the well filter damaged as a result of ageing. As new technologies and materials become available on the market, it is possible to use new generation filters in the well construction, with better technical parameters (in terms of strength, hydraulics and corrosion resistance). In many cases, it allows for maintaining or achieving similar operational parameters in the reconstructed well. The determination of resources for a reconstructed well should, however, take into account modified filtration conditions in the aquifer's zone adjacent to the filter because of the zone siltation during previous use of the well. The paper includes an evaluation of the impact of the reconstruction of two wells extracting water from the Lower Cretaceous level on improvement of their yields.

Application of fluidal ashes as a component of cement slurry used in carbon dioxide injection wells - possibility analysis
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2018) Formela, Małgorzata Maria; Gonet, Kamil; Stryczek, Stanisław; Wiśniowski, Rafał
One of the most important environmental issues bothering scientists nowadays are greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide, and the possibility of limiting their emission and utilization. Many countries have been actively trying to limit the greenhouse gases emission, mainly carbon dioxide, and implement the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology for years. One of the essential aspects of geological injection is constant monitoring of carbon dioxide, especially its pressure and temperature. Those parameters have an impact on viscosity, density and phase alterations during the flow. It is of vital importance to maintain the supercritical state of the fluid because it is the most efficient way of $CO_2$ storage. The negative impact of $CO_2$ on the properties of the cement slurry may disturb the exploitation of the well and create considerable hazard for the geological storage of carbon dioxide. Therefore, the cement slurry should be appropriately selected and the role of $CO_2$ in the development of technological properties of fresh and hardened cement slurry should be determined. The aim of this research is to select the most appropriate cement slurry composition exhibiting optimal properties with respect to the phase changes of carbon dioxide. The first part of the research consists in creating cement slurries of various compositions and investigating its thermal conductivity and sogginess under in-situ conditions. The second part concerns a possibility of utilization of fluidal ashes from combustion of lignite as a component of cement slurry.

Water resources and climate change - groundwater as an alternative source of water supply
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Winid, Bogumiła; Chruszcz-Lipska, Katarzyna; Maruta, Michał; Solecki, Marek
In recent years, the world, including Europe, has seen a much higher incidence of extreme weather phenomena. The ongoing climatic changes have a direct impact on the condition of surface waters. Groundwater is less affected by anthropogenic pollution than surface water, since groundwater can be used in distribution systems for municipal purposes, for food purposes, sold in unit packages, and for medicinal purposes (in drinking and bathing treatments). In Poland, a country with poor water resources, the problem of water scarcity due to climate change may even increase. One solution to this problem may be the increased use of Polish groundwater resources. Hydrogeological conditions favorable to the construction of drill wells, detailed identification of available groundwater resources throughout the country and the low degree of their usage (25% on average) make it possible to increase the intake of groundwater to cover this water deficit, especially in periods of drought.
