Computer simulation of lamellar microstructure
(2015) Czarski, Andrzej; Matusiewicz, Piotr
Other than granular and dispersive microstructures, the lamellar microstructure is one of the most-frequently observed traits in the case of metal alloys. This work defines a geometrical model of a lamellar microstructure and presents its stereological relationships as well as our computer-simulation results for this model. The applied methodology creates – at least from a theoretical point of view – a series of interesting possibilities in the field of quantitative description of this type of microstructure and examinations of the properties of the parameter estimators that quantitatively characterize it.

The influence of microstructure of 30MnB4 steel on hydrogen-assisted cracking
(2015) Krawczyk, Janusz Ryszard; Bała, Piotr; Tokarski, Tomasz; Pawłowski, Bogdan; Frocisz, Łukasz
This paper analyzes the problem of susceptibility to hydrogen-assisted cracking (fracture behavior) of zinc-coated screws made of 30MnB4 steel. Two samples (screws) were compared after proper and improper heat treatment affecting hydrogen solubility during the further galvanic process and resulting in different fracture modes. Both samples were loaded to failure by torsion. The fracture surface and microstructure of the samples were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS).

Hot cracking of nickel-based superalloy turbine blade
(2015) Rakoczy, Łukasz; Tuz, Lechosław; Pańcikiewicz, Krzysztof
The aim of this study was to present the hot cracking behavior of a blade originating from a turbine blade segment. The crack was induced by a gas tungsten arc welding process, and the research material was a MAR-M247 nickel based superalloy. This alloy is considered to be difficult to weld because of its high tendency to crack. Light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy show the occurrence of cracking in the melted zone, heat-affected zone, and base alloy. A scanning electron microscopy investigation revealed that cracks are propagated by stresses and liquation of the low temperature constituent.

Numerical analysis of rod uniaxial tension considering thermo-mechanical coupling effect
(2015) Nguyen, Hong Phong; Niezgoda, Tadeusz; Derewońko, Agnieszka; Jachimowicz, Jerzy
This paper presents numerical analyses of uniaxial tension tests on rods made of a material with elasticplastic characteristics with mapping the temperature fields generated in the fields of plastic strains. The use of thermo-mechanical coupling algorithms implemented in CAE programs that enable us to enter the parameters of materials dependent on temperature and used to visualize the damage of the samples is presented. The numerical models were validated with experimental research.
