Modelling of lightning overvoltages for the protection of transmission lines by means of shielding wires and surge arresters

Abstract

The content of doctoral dissertation are the problems of the modelling of overvoltages which are generated in the overhead transmission lines during lightning strokes. High voltage transmission lines are protected from direct lightning strokes by the use of shielding wires. In order to reduce overvoltages in the overhead lines surge arresters are also applied. In the dissertation was confirmed that the computer simulations of lightning overvoltages can be performed only with the use of selected mathematical models of lines, surge arresters and different devices as well as phenomena existing in conditions of generation of overvoltages. On the basis of analysis were selected detailed models appropriate for conditions of propagation of overvoltage waves with large steepness. The computer simulations of lightning overvoltages have been performed in the part of electric power system. On the basis of the results of the work, it was confirmed that values of the lightning surges are dependent on parameters of lightning currents, the construction of the lines and parameters of surge arresters. The protection systems containing both shielding wires and surge arresters create complex overvoltages protection of overhead lines.

Treścią rozprawy doktorskiej są problemy modelowania przepięć generowanych w napowietrznych liniach elektroenergetycznych podczas wyładowań piorunowych. Linie przesyłowe wysokich napięć są chronione od bezpośrednich wyładowań piorunowych za pomocą przewodów odgromowych. W celu zmniejszania przepięć w liniach napowietrznych są stosowane także ograniczniki przepięć. W pracy wykazano, że symulacje komputerowe przepięć mogą być wykonywane przy zastosowaniu tylko wybranych modeli matematycznych linii przesyłowych, ograniczników przepięć i urządzeń elektrycznych oraz zjawisk występujących w warunkach generowania przepięć. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz wybrano modele odpowiednie dla warunków propagacji fal przepięciowych o dużych stromościach. Wykonano symulacje przepięć piorunowych we fragmencie układu elektroenergetycznego. Na podstawie wyników pracy stwierdzono, że wartości przepięć piorunowych są zależne od parametrów prądów piorunowych, rozwiązań konstrukcyjnych linii oraz parametrów ograniczników przepięć. Systemy ochrony zawierające przewody odgromowe oraz ograniczniki przepięć tworzą kompleksową ochronę przepięciową linii napowietrznych.
