My goal is to present tensions in the identities of turkish women, caused due to the fact that they stay under the influence of two different discourses: traditional - Muslim discourses and modern - kemalist one. I would like to present the transformation of the ideal of femininity that has taken place due to the secularization of the Turkish state. I will also focus on the issue of headscarves, which - as a result of two different discourses - have grown into an ambiguous symbol. In my analysis I take into accout both the role of modernization in shaping the thinking of citizens as well as Islam, which disappeared from the public sphere, but still is an important determinant of the turkish overlook. I will also base on the results of my fieldwork the perceptions of the Muslim headscarf by the modern turkish woman. The first part of the paper is a presentation of the historical situation of Turkey with particularly emphasis on changes that have occurred due to the reforms of Mustafa Kemal Atatüirk. I focus on the role of women in Turkey in the context of the background of historical events. I also present the entry of w omen into the public sphere in Turkey, which was accompanied by changes in mores and tensions that arise in the identity of the new Turkish women. The second part of the paper describes the results of my ficldwork on Muslim headscarves w hich I did among a group of young students of Yeditepe University in Istanbul. I am trying to show how the tensions in Turkish identity described in the literature are visible in the statements of my interlocutors. I refer also to ambiguity of veiling w hich significance has gone beyond the religious context.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Konrad Pędziwiatr, »Przemiany islamizmów w Egipcie i Tunezji w cieniu Arabskiej Wiosny«, Zakład Wydawniczy Nomos, Kraków 2019, 298 s.(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Wach, DominikThe review concerns a monograph on the transformation of Islamic movements in Egypt and Tunisia and their politicization, in particular after the Arab revolutions (»Arab Spring«). The monograph presents an interdisciplinary approach to the discussed issues, but concentrates in particular on the achievements of social movement studies as well as studies of political Islam. The strength of the reviewed publication is also the analysis of the material obtained by the author during field research and interviews with the leaders of the Islamic movements and experts in the field of political Islam. Thanks to numerous fragments of interviews quoted in the book, as well as the publication of some of them selected in full, it aspires to enter the canon of publications about Islamism and broadly speaking policies in the Middle East and North Africa. Right balance between theory and practice further increases the attractiveness of the book.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Między tradycją a nowoczesnością. Cham people are members of three Muslim groups, who not share the same origin. Nevertheless they suffered the similar fate as the rest of the society during the Khmer Rouge era. As Muslims, Chams were considered a threat to the communist leadership and its policy of collectivization. Despite the fact, that all cultural and material property was destroyed and almost the half of the community was murdered, Chams rebuilt mosques, religious buildings and Koranic schools being supported by Muslim governments from South East Asia and the Middle East. Most Cambodian Muslims consider themselves Shafi'i Sunnis, and followers of the Shafi'i school of Sunni law.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Popkultura zachodu w muzułmańskim oriencie: modernizacja, westernizacja czy kreolizacja świata młodych muzułmanów w Tunezji(Data obrony: 2010-07-02) Mydlarz, Paulina

Wydział HumanistycznyItem type:Article, Access status: Open Access , The crisis of religious intolerance in contemporary Indonesia – a phenomenon of the Islamic housing industry and its impact on social life(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Piosik, MonikaIn the last few years Indonesia has been experiencing a new wave of Muslim revival. In addition to the growing popularity of conservative and even radical Muslim ideologies such as Wahhabism and Salafism, this de facto multi-religious society is facing a strong trend towards religious segregation. Indonesians are looking for new forms of their religious manifestation and expressions of their piety. One of the most vivid examples of Muslim separation from other religions is the perumahan syariah, a new form of gated communities in Indonesia. The article describes the growing phenomenon of closed neighborhoods where residents' lives are restricted by Sharia law. The paper first describes the roots of the current religious revival and its impact on the social situation, then deepens the definition of gated communities in the context of perumahan syariah as well as controversies linked to the topic. In conclusion, the possible implications for social life in Indonesia are presented.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Wybrane aspekty świata islamu i muzułmanów(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Stojkow, MariaThe relatively significant rise in the number of the Muslims in the modern world, the migration crisis and the activity of various Islamic extremist groups make the Muslims a subject of political debate in many countries, including these where the Muslim dispora is small. Many issues related to Islam and the Muslims living in both Muslim countries and diasporas around the world are still unknown to the wider public. The issues related to the revival of Islam in places where it has been completely uprooted for some time, the issues of the presence and the rights of various discriminated groups as well as gender discrimination are becoming important topics in the scientific discussion about the world today. The same is true for the media and literature.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Życie zawodowe kobiet w krajach arabskich(Data obrony: 2011-07-12) Czopek, Katarzyna
