- ArtykułTylko metadaneActive forms of tourism among lower and higher secondary students in Cracow(2014) Jurczak, Adam; Żiżka-Salamon, DanutaThe purpose of this paper is to determine organizational forms (formal, non-formal) and the level of tourism activity among young people of secondary schools in Cracow depending on gender, the type of school and the education of the parents. The study included 1472 students of schools in Cracow. Physically active forms of tourism are undertaken mostly by girls - 63% rather than by boys - 52%. With increasing levels of education of the parents, the number of young people practicing active forms of tourism also increases. The undertaking of active forms of tourism varies, depending of the type of school attended. Young people in secondary (63,9%) and primary (65,7%) schools most often chose to go for tourism. In primary (50,1%) and secondary (39,4%) vocational schools they go least often. Active forms of tourism usually take the form of informal practice among friends and acquaintances (mostly hiking - 47%).
- ArtykułTylko metadaneArkose sandstone - a forgotten treasure of Kwaczała(2013) Stanisz, Jacek; Ziobro, AnnaIn the surroundings of Krakow, there are few places where coarse carbonless rocks called the Kwaczała Arkose crop out. One of them is located near the Kwaczała countryside next to Alwernia. These deposits are unique in the scale of our country and Europe. They include silicified fragments of tree-trunks Dadoxylon. The current condition of gorges is presented in this paper. Many of them are uncared for, despite their significant scientific and educational value. An evaluation of the current outcrops' state was made. The authors also proposed how to develop the Kwaczała countryside.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneAtrakcje geoturystyczne grupy wulkanów Kluczewskiej Sopki, północna Kamczatka, Rosja(2010) Łodziński, MarekThe paper describes the geotouristic valours of the Klyuchevskaya group of volcanoes in the Northern Kamchatka. The relationships are presented between the Kamchatka and the recent boundaries of crustal plates, then the genesis and the structure are explained of the Koryak-Kamchatka volcanic belt. The geotectonic position of Kamchatka as a part of the 'Circumpacific Ring of Fire' enables us to recognize the manifestations of the recent volcanism (shield volcanoes, stratovolcanoes, lava domes, calderas, ignimbrites, lahars, gas and vapour exhalations, native sulphur encrustations). Apart from volcanic activity, the exceptional tourist value of the Northern Kamchatka is the high- mountain relief shaped by glaciers, weathering and river erosion.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneAtrakcje turystyczne partnerskich miast Orange (Francja) i Jarosławia (Polska)(2010) Dąbrowski, Janusz; Doktor, Marek; Szeliga-Kowalczyk, AnnaIn the article showed most interested tourist and geotouristic attractions of Orange and Provence which became presented by the French national team of the Polish delegation within the framework of the cooperation and the cultural exchange of based on partnership cities Orange (France) and Jarosław (Poland). Described also most interested tourist objects of Jarosław against the background of the characterization of the natural environment.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneBenefit tourism - a new concept of the phenomenon an terminology issues(2012) Różycki, Paweł; Kąkol, KatarzynaBenefit tourism is a disputable term. This follows from the fact that the definition of tourism even by UNWTO somehow excludes activities whose aim is to gain financial profit from tourist activities. In the fast changing world we are forced to pose a question whether tourism should still be considered as a relatively narrow concept. While leaving their country for work people also get to know the culture of a visited place since they go sightseeing and, most importantly, they mingle with the natives, and through this they get to know the visited country better. Traditional tourism, especially for those unprepared, does not give a chance to experience the real aspects of the visited country. In commercialized tourism a tourist often gets a distorted picture of the region he/she is visiting. Therefore, a proper preparation (education) together with a right attitude of a person leaving his/her country for work, may be a chance to get to know a different culture, gain a new experience and make a network of contacts. Despite numerous dysfunctions resulting from e.g. separation from a family, the phenomenon has also positive aspects because except from getting to know different regions of the world an economical aim is also accomplished and owing to it, people interested in tourism may either in the future or during weekends pursue their tourist hobbies.
- ArtykułOtwarty dostępBuilding stone used in architectural objects in the town of Wieluń(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2014) Śpiewak, AdamThe architectural space of the center of Wieluń and chosen objects located in the town were analyzed. Research was carried out on the identification of building stones in this particular area. On the basis of the research, it is possible to find over fifty kinds of various stone materials, including sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks. These were classified and counted. For the first time, a coefficient of Used Kinds of Stone in architectural Objects (UKSO) was suggested. Its purpose was to show, from the engineering point of view, the amount of the stone in urban architecture. The most interesting stone pictures display their variations in color, structure and texture. The gathered results confirm their geological inheritance and increase the tourist attractiveness of the town.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneCriteria of geotourism valorization specified for various recipients(2015) Doktor, Marek; Miśkiewicz, Krzysztof; Welc, Ewa Małgorzata; Mayer, WojciechThe following paper presents methodology of valorization of geotourism objects adapted to meet the expectations and needs of various groups of potential recipients: tourists (casual, witting, hobbyist), educators (school teachers, academic staff, guides, organizers) and investors (owners, managers). Any geotourism object can be valorized using four principal categories of criteria: visual, cognitive, functional and investing. Each category is evaluated separately and selection of particular criteria depends on the needs of given recipient.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneDevelopment of karst phenomena for geotourism in the Moravian Karst (Czech Republic)(2011) Migoń, PiotrThe Moravian Karst in the south-eastern part of the Czech Republic has considerable potential for the development of geotourism. It is characterized by outstanding geodiversity, revealed in abundant, surface and subterranean karst landforms, as well as protracted history of karst evolution which can be traced back to the Mesozoic. An additional value is provided by the presence of cultural heritage, related to exploitation and processing of mineral resources genetically linked to the karst environment. The significance of this area is further enhanced by easy access to karst landforms and phenomena. Five caves, each of different morphology, can be visited. A dense network of educational trails, marked paths, forestry and field-access roads allows the visitor to reach all interesting features of karst morphology.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneDevelopment of the trends in Czech spas, with an accent on Russian spa clients(2015) Pellešová, Pavlina; Kostková, MiroslavaThe Czech spa has a rich history and is based on the use of natural medicinal resources, with a significant share of direct medical care coupled with a comprehensive approach to treatment admissions. - ArtykułTylko metadaneEden Project - the Cornwall Peninsula peculiarity(2012) Baczyńska, Elżbieta; Lorenc, Marek WojciechThe Eden Project-the largest natural scientific complex - was established in 2001 in the surroundings of Bodelva situated in the southern part of Cornwall (Great Britain). It was created in a kaolin pit closed down in the XlXth century. This venture has three main functions: natural, educational and touristic. The project presents unusually interesting and original architecture. Under light-transmitting, semicircular domes there are various ecosystems called biomes which differ from the external environment. The entire project consists of the following parts: the Mediterranean biome, the rainforest biome, a unit called 'the Core' and the visitor centre. The area where all the buildings are located is covered by the external biome. The Eden Project is a huge educative institution which reflects processes occurring in the nature. The aim of this venture is, above all, education of ecological aspects concerning life on the Earth and presentation of the necessity to preserve the biodiversity. Since its opening, the Eden Project has been visited by 1.2 million tourists every year.
- ArtykułOtwarty dostępEducational trails of the Racławka Valley Nature Reserve and their potential for geoeducation(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2021) Szreter, Anna; Skoczylas-Śniaz, Sylwia; Wierzba, Katarzyna; Czoch, Paulina; Bolek, Szymon; Kowal-Kasprzyk, JustynaThe Racławka Valley is located west of Krakow, in the Krakow-Częstochowa Upland. This is a place of high bio- and geodiversity, where various rocks of different ages outcrop in vast excavation pits, narrow gorges or form characteristic monadnocks. The richness of various morphological forms and special habitats led to the constitution of a nature reserve, covering most of the Racławka Valley and adjacent, southern parts of the Szklarka Valley. Three educational trails lead through the reserve, connecting a number of geosites. The Geotourism Students’ Scientific Club (GSSC) from AGH University of Science and Technology examined the usability of these trails for geoeducation. After completing geotourism valorisation, adequate teaching materials were prepared, and different age groups were guided around the trails. Their comprehension has been verified by quizzes and opinions gathered through questionnaires. On the bases of these, the three educational trails were widely described and assessed in respect for their terrain difficulty, accessibility, and infrastructure. Each trail has a leitmotif and a specific theme, however geosites from different trails can be combined together to get a route of a chosen theme. The GSSC also released three new geotourism guidebooks, one for each trail, as a result of AGH rector's grant projects in the years 2018–2020.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneEngland‘s Abberley-Malvern Hills Geopark as a Tourism Project(2013) Mazurski, Krzysztof RadosławThe welfare initiative has led to a creation of Abberley-Malvern Hills Geopark in the borderland of West England and Wales. It covers places of a very long geological profile with many geosites. They are a base for a development of tourism and eduational activity. - ArtykułTylko metadaneGeological and tourist attractions of southern Bornholm(2014) Jamorska, Izabela; Gil, Katarzyna; Kamińska, Anna; Piątkowska, Daria; Sokólska, Anna; Żarnowska, JoannaThe following article presents the description of seven geological and tourist routes in the southern part of the Danish island called Bornholm. The fieldwork, which took place during the expedition of the Geography Students’ Scientific Group from the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, included photographic documentation and the location of rock concentrations by means of a GPS receiver. The researched routes reveal both geological diversity of the island – Precambrian, Palaeozoic, and Mesozoic rocks, as well as tourist sites, such as round churches, historical windmills, rune stones and numerous attractions of major cities of the island.
- ArtykułOtwarty dostępThe geological and tourist attractions of the largest Australian cities and their surroundings(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2014) Jamorska, IzabelaAustralia, labelled the continent of contrasts, is one of the most geologically interesting places in the world. Australia is home to some of the oldest rocks and minerals in the world. Some of the oldest parts of Australia are incredibly well preserved, with rocks that appear as though they could have formed yesterday. The majority of Australians live in coastal areas, because the interior of the country, called the Outback can be a very arid area with many deserts and a lack of water. The largest cities, like Sydney, Perth and Melbourne, are situated along the coast. Great distances between the cities are surprising to foreigners. In these areas, buildings or people are not the most interesting attractions. In fact, it is the geology that is most interesting.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneGeologiczna wędrówka przez Orkady i Szetlandy(2010) Latocha, AgnieszkaThe main features of the landscape of the Orkney and the Shetland islands are presented in the article in the context of their geological and geomorphic development. The paper describes sites where rocks and landforms reflecting various stages of geological development appear at the surface. These include, among others, the oldest rocks on the European continent (remnants of the Caledonian orogen), rocks of an ancient ocean floor, granite intrusions, traces of former volcanic activity, landforms resulting from tectonics and glacial modelling. Also contemporary processes shaping the dynamic, rocky coastline are discussed, with attention paid to the influence of lithofacial variety of sediments on diversity of landforms within the cliffs and shore zone. The relationships between diversified geology, cultural and economic development of the islands and animate nature are mentioned, as well (eg., rocks used in the Neolithic buildings, oil and aggregate exploitation, nature resources and bird sanctuaries on the cliffs).
- ArtykułTylko metadaneGeoróżnorodność i geoturystyka w terenach poeksploatacyjnych na przykładzie regionu chęcińsko-kieleckiego(2010) Nita, Jerzy; Myga-Piątek, UrszulaThe article discusses the matters of management of post-exploitation areas of the Chęciny-Kielce region. Changes in surface features and other elements of the natural environment, caused by mineral exploitation of resources, are usually recognized in terms of high threat and associated with landscape devastation. The author deal with the issues of necessary protection not only of the geographical environment, but also of the landscape, especially in areas where post-mining forms do not threaten the condition of the natural environment. It presents geological values and the need to protect them in order to increase the scenic values and for the purposes of geological didactics and specialist tourism.
- ArtykułTylko metadaneGeothermal fields of New Zealand in tourism industry - the case of complementary assets and competitive products(2015) Pijet-Migoń, Edyta; Migoń, PiotrGeothermal phenomena in the North Island of New Zealand have been a basis of tourism industry since the mid- 19th century. Their highlights include geysers, hot springs, mud pools, steam vents, craters, and various silica deposition features. Five geothermal sites, Te Puia Whakarewarewa, Waimangu, Wai-O-Tapu, Orakei Korako, and Craters of the Moon, are subjects of this study which is focused on interrelated issues of diversity, accessibility, and interpretation. The sites are sufficiently different in terms of natural phenomena to be perceived as complementary, offering jointly a comprehensive picture of geothermal phenomena. However, cooperation between their properties hardly exists. In promotion, unusual scenic values and record features are emphasized, whereas more in-depth interpretation is limited. There are opportunities to enhance educational components of each site, so that they can offer experience and learning rather than experience only and become fully developed geotourist destinations.
