Analityka kulturowa, czyli jak narzędzia »data science« zmieniły humanistykę
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Radomski, Andrzej
The article presents research paradigms that have radically changed the contemporary humanities. The most important of these is cultural analytics. It is based on Data Science methods. The author presents the assumptions of data science, and then the characteristics of digital humanities and cultural analytics. The second part of the article presents examples of research and projects conducted as part of cultural analysis. These are projects implemented at the DH Lab at Yale University, Software Studies Initiative, and Media Lab Katowice. Research conducted in these institutions transformed the humanities. Its characteristic features are the study of large data collections, research automation, the use of machine learning and knowledge visualization. The new humanities, the author claims, has become an exact science.

Choroba Alzheimera jako przykład desynchronizacji funkcjonowania i zbiór neurokognitywnych wzorców stanowiących potencjalne źródło zasobów dla rozwoju sztucznej inteligencji
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Kaszyńska, Anna Aleksandra
The review article focuses on the potential development of Artificial Intelligence by extracting fixed patterns and regularities that enable the improvement and refinement of advanced analyses in the field of artificial neural network learning. Is conducted through the prism of the neurocognitive view of Alzheimer’s disease as a potential set of neurocognitive patterns constituting a potential source of resources for the development of artificial intelligence. It is closely related to encephalography, both used to detect pathological dementia changes, and the analysis of brain activity itself, showing the existence of repeated regularities. These patterns, analogic in the astrophysical Lagrandrean mapping analysis of the galaxy, seem to have the potential to develop Artificial Intelligence. Especially, following the idea of perceiving Alzheimer’s disease as a global functional desynchronisation, global neurodegenerative changes may provide potential resources that, through mathematical and algebraic transformations, to serve as a foundation for the development of Artificial Intelligence.

Ruchomy wielokropek jako metoda ekspozycji marki na plakacie filmu »Pewnego razu... w Hollywood«
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Nowotnik, Kamil
The aim of the article is to present syntax delimitation as a way to use the »Hollywood« brand on a chosen movie poster and to investigate the purpose of such syntactic measure. The conducted interdisciplinary analysis divides the message on the poster into an information segment and a graphic/artistic segment, presenting the internal content koherence throughout the entire poster. To determine the implicatures which reveal the message of the poster as a multimodal communication, one needs to refer to several semiotics systems and to various theoretical concepts. In the result of the conducted analysis one can formulate an answer to the question about the purpose of changing the official movie title on the marketing materials, at the same time revealing the usefulness of multiperspective semiotic research.

Konstruowanie tożsamości beduińskiej w perspektywie kolonialnej. Wokół reportażu »Wieje szarkijja. Beduini z pustyni Negew« Pawła Smoleńskiego
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Wielewska-Baka, Martyna Anna
In the article I examine Paweł Smoleński's reportage Wieje szarkijja. Beduini z pustyni Negew (2016) in order to present the complexity and problematic situation of the Bedouin minority in the modern state of Israel. I mainly refer to the methodologies and tools proposed by researchers from the Ben-Gurion University center, e.g. O. Yiftachel, I. Abu-Saad or A. Amara, as well as to others (C. Parizot, R. Kanaaneh). Their research is characterized by a postcolonial approach, exposing the ethnocratic and discriminatory nature of the actions of the state of Israel. I am trying to highlight the critical discourse of Smoleński's project by analyzing successively the construction of a romantic story about Bedouins, the dynamic nature of their identity and the phenomenon of »shifting stereotypes«. I also discuss the delicate theme of Bedouin »complicity« in the formation and maintenance of their ethnic representation as the nomadic people of the Negev desert.

Shaman or showman? The myths of Jim Morrison from an aesthetic anthropological perspective
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Papp, Richard
The study deals with the concepts of Jim Morrison's art from the perspective of the myths surrounding Morrison, especially his »self-made shamanism«. Morrison created a »personal shamanism« that basically determined his art and image. The study explores how and why Morrison created his own myth and built shamanistic elements into his songs, poems, and performances. The paper also touches on the connections between Morrison's ideas and show business. According to Morrison's self-definition, which is self-ironic, he was, among other roles, both a »shaman« and a »showman«. At the same time, these roles also contained one of the unresolved contradictions of his life. In his concert performances he repeatedly reproached his audience, and he repeatedly fell into conflicts within the »games« of show business, including with those who use rock music for political purposes, managers, businessmen, and even his own band-mates. His art divided audiences and critics, and it continues to divide them to this day. Whit this in mind, the study brings up examples of the »Jim Morrison myth« after his death and tries to place this myth within the meanings of the mythology of modernity.
