Families of non-heterosexual people with children: among old answers and new questions
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2016) Puszyk, Monika
The aim of this paper is to present and analyse the available data concerning the situation of children of non-heterosexual people and to discuss selected areas of LGB parenting. The article enables an identification of issues related to the welfare and specificity of functioning of children brought up by gays, lesbians and bisexual people, which over almost forty years of research have finally been empirically verified. At the same time, it points to the need to caution against generalizing particular conclusions from the conducted research, especially those concerning the level of discrimination and peer violence against non-heterosexual people and their children, on families living in Poland and other countries characterised by a low level of acceptance of LGB parenting. The paper also identifies areas that should be of interest to researchers, including the perspective of social parents and their relations with children, experiences of children raised by non-heterosexual men and bisexual parents, as well as experiences of children brought up in family systems alternative to the traditional model (a pair of parents with children). The data collected so far allow us to speak about safe context of development of children raised in family systems created by non-heterosexual parents, and, at the same time, they point to a space for educational programs and research projects that will enable further understanding of experiences of non-heterosexual parents and their children.
Commercialisation of occupational development services. People for the institutions, or institutions for the people? (case analysis of occupational development of disabled university graduates)
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2016) Giermanowska, Ewa; Racław-Markowska, Mariola
Poland is a country with very low labour force participation among people with disabilities. On the one hand, changes are visible in the attitudes and behaviour of people with disabilities, especially students and graduates who aim to have a professional career. On the other hand, one can observe a process of gradual withdrawal of families from caring and active support of the disabled. This situation demands certain compensatory measures such us intensification of engagement of relevant institutions and seeking alternative ways of providing care and support. The Polish system of occupational development services for the disabled is complicated and nontransparent for the beneficiaries. It is also inadequate for the growing professional aspirations of people with disabilities. Employees of support institutions tend to follow long-standing routines and patterns of behaviour defined by formal rules, rather than adjusting to the individual needs of the disabled and the changing labour market. Commercialisation of support institutions, within the framework of the new paradigm of social policy, has contributed to economisation of support institutions by focusing on benefits and profits to the institution, rather than the professional development of disabled people. Thus, we have an unfinished process of labour emancipation of disabled university graduates who cannot satisfy their career aspirations.
Dylematy etyczne i problemy metodologiczne warsztatu badacza na przykładzie badań prowadzonych w środowisku osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną oraz niepełnosprawnością fizyczną
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2016) Niedbalski, Jakub
Aim of the article is to consider ethical dilemmas and methodological problems, which a qualitative researcher becomes entangled in, taking up exploration of chosen spheres of social life. On one hand, these will be cases bases on research conducted in the environment of intellectually handicapped persons, and on the other I will refer to studies performed among the physically disabled. In the article I will try to provide liminal and ambiguous examples, which may become a trigger for further discussion. First of all they will be such situations, in which it is hard for a researcher to apply moral standards, without being afraid of violating them. Hence, the researcher is faced with a necessity to make difficult decisions and ambiguous choices, relating to that to what extent he can perform the research and realize the set goals, maintaining at the same time basic ethical standards.
Reklama jako sport walki. Polskie pole produkcji reklamowej w świetle socjologii sztuki Pierre'a Bourdieu
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2016) Łuczaj, Kamil
The title of this paper refers to the famous metaphor used by Pierre Bourdieu, who compared the sociology to a combat sport. The tools of Bourdieu’s sociology of art shed new light on the processes taking place in the advertising agencies (typically analyzed by the sociology of organizations or sociology of communication), in particular the work of copywriters and art directors (»creative employees«). The field of art and the field of cultural production where advertising should be placed, have a lot in common. Similar symbolic struggles take place within both fields. The difference lies in involved actors, the stakes (fr. enjeux) and the source of legitimacy in the field.
W poszukiwaniu siebie. Indywidualne motywy podwieszania ciała praktykowanego współcześnie w Polsce
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2016) Kowal, Katarzyna
The paper deals with the practice of body suspension, which is one of the forms of body play, initiated and popularized by the Modern Primitive movement. The empirical basis of the paper is the author’s own sociological research focused on the issue of individual motives to practise body suspension. The research sample consisted of people who have experienced body suspension several times ($N = 30$). Since grounded theory methodology was selected as the research strategy, the technique of free-form guided interview was used. The theoretical framework for empirical analyses was demarcated by joint, socio-cultural and at the same individual perspective on body perception, with the latter being the most important because of the chosen research strategy. The following motives for participation of the research subjects in body suspension practice emerged from the collected empirical material: to get to know their own bodies, to overcome the limitations of the body, to exercise the right of ownership of the body, to work with the body, to experience a different state of consciousness, to reach spiritual and corporeal ecstasy, to promote neo-primitivist trend of body suspension. In thus described motives for body suspension, the body appears to be a source of knowledge and experience, place of control, object of ownership, source of pleasure, and above all – the centre of identity.
