Wybrane aspekty świata islamu i muzułmanów
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Stojkow, Maria
The relatively significant rise in the number of the Muslims in the modern world, the migration crisis and the activity of various Islamic extremist groups make the Muslims a subject of political debate in many countries, including these where the Muslim dispora is small. Many issues related to Islam and the Muslims living in both Muslim countries and diasporas around the world are still unknown to the wider public. The issues related to the revival of Islam in places where it has been completely uprooted for some time, the issues of the presence and the rights of various discriminated groups as well as gender discrimination are becoming important topics in the scientific discussion about the world today. The same is true for the media and literature.

The crisis of religious intolerance in contemporary Indonesia – a phenomenon of the Islamic housing industry and its impact on social life
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Piosik, Monika
In the last few years Indonesia has been experiencing a new wave of Muslim revival. In addition to the growing popularity of conservative and even radical Muslim ideologies such as Wahhabism and Salafism, this de facto multi-religious society is facing a strong trend towards religious segregation. Indonesians are looking for new forms of their religious manifestation and expressions of their piety. One of the most vivid examples of Muslim separation from other religions is the perumahan syariah, a new form of gated communities in Indonesia. The article describes the growing phenomenon of closed neighborhoods where residents' lives are restricted by Sharia law. The paper first describes the roots of the current religious revival and its impact on the social situation, then deepens the definition of gated communities in the context of perumahan syariah as well as controversies linked to the topic. In conclusion, the possible implications for social life in Indonesia are presented.

Trans-locality among Kurds – the case of Turkey
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Kaczorowski, Karol
The article aims at presenting trans-local aspects of Kurdish society and especially trans-local ties maintained by Kurds in Turkey, particularly in Istanbul. Inspired by transnational theories in migration and diaspora studies, the author proposes a categorization of Kurdish migration waves and waves of internal migration in Turkey. Drawing on in-depth interviews conducted with Kurds in Istanbul, the paper depicts ways of maintaining ties with the country’s Kurdish regions and types of social organizing around their culture and perceived needs. The paper also offers insights into contemporary Kurdish migration in Turkey, leading to the conclusion that although trans-locality has often been forced on Kurds, the socio-political situation in 2002–2015 led to the emergence of a new, trans-local, socially active Kurdish elite in Turkey.

Muzułmańska mniejszość Czam w Kambodży – odrodzenie po ludobójstwie
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Brataniec, Katarzyna Agnieszka
The article describes the place of Cham's Muslim minority in Cambodia as a different ethnic and religious group. Cham people are members of three Muslim groups, who not share the same origin. Nevertheless they suffered the similar fate as the rest of the society during the Khmer Rouge era. As Muslims, Chams were considered a threat to the communist leadership and its policy of collectivization. Despite the fact, that all cultural and material property was destroyed and almost the half of the community was murdered, Chams rebuilt mosques, religious buildings and Koranic schools being supported by Muslim governments from South East Asia and the Middle East. Most Cambodian Muslims consider themselves Shafi'i Sunnis, and followers of the Shafi'i school of Sunni law.

Who is Greta Thunberg? Echoes of the world climate discussion in the discourse of Moroccan independent media
(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Pałka-Lasek, Agnieszka
The article is an attempt to present the response drawn in the Arabic independent media by the world discussion on the figure of the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2019. Using the tools for discourse analysis, the research focuses mainly on the way the activist's image is created in the context of the social role assumed by the Internet press media as news publishers, covering the plane of language, transmitting ideas and social interactions. Articles from the Moroccan Internet journal Hespress (for several years one of the most often visited website among the Moroccan e-community), come from the period from 27 September to 29 December 2019, were used as the research material.
