Evolutionary approach for obtaining the hub and spoke structure in the logistic network
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2011) Mażbic-Kulma, Barbara; Stańczak, Jarosław; Owsiński, Jan Wojciech; Sęp, Krzysztof
In order to describe transportation system, as a routine a connection graph would be used. Vertices of the graph can be train stations, bus stop, airports etc. The edges show direct connections between vertices. A direct application of such graph can be difficult and computational problems can occur while one would try to organize or optimize such a transportation system. Therefore, a method of aggregation of such graph was introduced, using the general kernel and shell structure and a hub and spoke transformation method of the source graph. These structures allow to concentrate and order the transport of goods/persons among vertices and enable to reduce the number of analyzed vertices as well as edges of the graph. In the presented paper we continue our work on kernel and shell and its instance hub and spoke methods of connection graph transformation. In this paper we develop model of the transportation system using the hub and spoke method with predetermined, minimum and indirectly described numbers of hub nodes. To obtain the desired structures, several versions of specialized evolutionary algorithm (EA) were developed and applied.

Choice of order picking concepts by means of simulation tools
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2010) Gałązka, Marek; Jakubiak, Michał
The pressure connected with cost cutting parallel to increase in consumer service quality, as well as speeding up the flow of goods are the result of worldwide economy trend connected with a big competition in the market. That's why in modern economy even small movements of goods on short distances are becoming more and more important. Order picking is the most laborious process in a warehouse, and according to different research, it equals to 55-65% of costs of all warehousing operations. On the basis of the existing model of a warehouse, which belongs to a logistic operator, a computer program has been created which examines the influence, of goods allocation in a warehouse and three heuristic concepts of planning the picking route, on the overall order picking time. By means of implemented simulation methods it is possible to match the appropriate order picking process to the needs of a given enterprise.

Preventive maintenance of technical systems as part of risk management
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2008) Okulewicz, Józef; Salamonowicz, Tadeusz
Technical objects used in logistics systems should not only be reliable, but also pose low risk arising from potential failures. Results of damage to or failure of complex objects depend on time of the failure duration and thus on the time of repairs, as well as on reliability structure and reliability characteristics of object elements. The risk connected with complex objects with serial reliability structure, both reparable and unreparable ones, was specified and analysed in the paper. The risk was mitigated by preventive replacements of object elements on the basis of statistical diagnosing. A computer simulation model was used to confirm a feasibility of minimising overall costs of preventive maintenance and failure effects.

A method for scheduling the goods receiving process in warehouse facilities
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2008) Ambroziak, Tomasz; Lewczuk, Konrad
The paper discusses the role of goods receiving/shipping scheduling in the warehousing process design. A formal notation of schedules is proposed and implemented in a software application for a specific analytical example.

Inventory cost settings in small bucket lot-sizing and scheduling models
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2009) Kaczmarczyk, Waldemar
This paper addresses models for lot-sizing and scheduling of several products on machines with limited capacity. Small time buckets in such models may arise from subdividing real (macro-)periods into several fictitious micro-periods. The inventory holding costs may then be accounted for either at the end of every micro-period or only at the end of the macro-period. Presented results of computational experiments show that these two settings lead to completely different models and solutions. After reviewing the definition of inventory holding costs, we propose a rule for correctly setting the unit costs which is essential for a correct formulation of the model.

Problems of supply process reliability assessment at small and medium-sized enterprises
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2008) Nowakowski, Tomasz
In the paper, the basic objectives of supply process are discussed. The importance of reliability assessment for the supply and procurement process is mentioned and some basic factors are described. The example of supply process analysis for SME is shown. The most important faults/errors of the process are described. The low costs of the faults/errors counteractions are underlined.

Methodology for cost oriented assembly line balancing problems
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2011) Grzechca, Waldemar
Assembly lines are special flow-lines production systems which are typical in the industrial production of high quantity standardized commodities. Assembly line balancing is based on evenly distribution of operations between workstations so that each idle time of the machines was minimal. It is assumed that operation times on the machines and the precedence relationship existing between the operations which results from the technology of the production line and the cycle time or the number of machines are known. In the paper short description about general assembly line problem and cost-oriented is described. Next the author presents description of used algorithms. A numerical example is calculated and the results are discussed. Presented paper shows that cost oriented assembly line balancing problem differs from time oriented problem and the differences are underlined.

Influence of the demand planning process on logistic system reliability - case study
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2011) Szozda, Natalia; Werbińska-Wojciechowska, Sylwia Ewa
Authors define the main elements affecting the right logistic system performance level and investigate the possible connections between demand process planning quality and logistic system reliability. Thus, the definitions of logistic system reliability are described. Later, an overview of some recent developments in the analyzed research area is provided. In the next point, authors present the main elements affecting the reliable and available logistic system performance. Finally, the paper is ended by the presentation of the obtained analysis results in comparison with the knowledge about the case companies' present condition.

Aggregate planning in manufacturing company - linear programming approach
(AGH University of Science and Technology Press, 2011) Hanczar, Paweł Stanisław; Jakubiak, Michał
The authors take into consideration the process of translating demand forecasts (or sale plans) into production plan. In the first part of the paper the characteristics and parameters of a aggregate planning are summarized. The main part contains the proposal of integer programming model which supports aggregate planning decisions. In the proposed model production quantities, timing of inputs, inventory levels and workloads are considered. The last part of the paper contains the presentation of computational result obtained by using the introduced model.
