- ArtykułOtwarty dostęp„10 praktycznych sposobów na integrację Romów”, czyli analiza współczesnej sytuacji społeczności romskich z perspektywy antropologii darów(2014) Witkowski, MaciejThe article is based on the results of ethnographic fieldwork in the local Bergitka Roma settlements in Poland and their social environment conducted over the past three years Roma communities in Poland are currently a subject of intensive interactions with the 'mainstream society', whose aim is socio-economic integration. Just as in the classic study of Marcel Mauss we also have to deal with an expected value exchange here. Mainstream society gives a gift in the form of funds for 'integrative practices' and hopes that on the basis of reciprocity, Roma communities abandon those elements of their traditional way of life which can be problematic in a 'democratic' and 'integrated' society. Ihc exchange of gifts is usually more of a symbolic action than satisfying 'objective' needs. It is rather a sign of mutual recognition, a tactic to build social bonds. The text shows how the existing practice of integrating by gifts sometimes leads to moral humiliation.

- ArtykułOtwarty dostęp25 years of Gazprom on the gas market(2015) Kosowska, Katarzyna; Kosowski, PiotrGas sector was one of the best growing industries of the Soviet Union in the last two decades of its existence. This was made possible thanks to the discovery and exploitation of natural gas fields in Western Siberia, as well as the construction of transmission infrastructure - domestic and export pipelines. The history of the Russian gas industry is inextricably linked with the activity of Gazprom, the gas concern set up in 1989 in place of liquidated Ministry of Gas Industry. The article gives a summary of the 25-year history of Gazprom and its economic, social and political role. It discusses activities of the company on internal and external markets, issues of gas reserves, production and transmission, as well as the financial and political relationship with the authorities of the Russian Federation.

It was applied at a small distance and parallel to the longer wall of a monumental building containing an empty 3 m deep basement. Analogue modelling was performed in order to recreate the field study at the proper scale. The laboratory set-up consisted of a water tank where electrodes were mounted to the particular plate, which rested on water surface. The basement model was made out of a non-conducting material. The default and robust inversions were tested and these variants were also considered with the use of numerical modelling. Laboratory experiments have confirmed that zones visible in the interpreted field section are caused by the influence of the building cellar located next to the survey line. Zones of this kind are additionally disturbed by the local geological structure. The experiment has pointed out, among others, that as the distance between the survey line and the underground body increases, the inversion results are still burdened by an object influence. Thus, similar situations can be verified with the use of analogue modelling presented in this paper or 3D numerical one.
- ArtykułOtwarty dostęp3-dimensional surface magnetic susceptibility distributions with depth to investigate anthropogenic pollutants boundary in Abuja Metropolis(2016) Jatto, Solomon Sunday; Sule, Peter Ojo; Ahmed, Lawal AminuChanges in the magnetic susceptibility of topsoil, especially in urban areas, are greatly affected by the deposition of anthropogenic metallic dust arising from industrial activities, the burning of fossil fuels, car wear, and tyre abrasion. In this study, magnetic susceptibility measurements were carried out in vertical soil profiles of 30.0 cm depth from the surface at 10.0 cm intervals in about 431 locations within the Abuja metropolis with a view to investigate the penetration ability of magnetic pollutants in the ground. From the obtained data, 3-D surface contour maps were plotted for different depths. The results show a magnetic susceptibility decrease from the surface down the ground to the depth of 30.0cm, most of the recorded susceptibilities were of an anthropogenic origin rather than pedogenic activities. This indicates that the anthropogenic dust depositions are mostly a surface phenomenon and may therefore not pose a risk to groundwater aquifers and near surface wells.

Tego typu obiekty cieplne wykorzystywane są w różnych gałęziach przemysłu, a przedmiotem modelowania jest rozwijane w Katedrze Informatyki Stosowanej PŁ półprzemysłowe stanowisko badawcze. Omówiono podstawy teoretyczne modelu oraz metodę rozwiązania problemu pól sprzężonych: elektromagnetycznego i cieplnego, z uwzględnieniem nieliniowości wynikających z własności materiałowych elementów układu. Wykorzystując powstały model, przeanalizowano zjawiska zachodzące w przypadku nagrzewania walca ruchomymi wzbudnikami. W szczególności zbadano wpływ wzajemnego położenia pary wzbudników na rozkład mocy generowanej w płaszczu walca.
- ArtykułOtwarty dostęp3D skeletonization of pulmonary airway tree structures(2010) Postolski, Michał; Janaszewski, Marcin Sławomir; Jopek, Łukasz; Babout, LaurentQuantitative analysis of the human airway trees is a challenge in image processing and analysis. Results obtained in previous work on this subject are still not sufficient and they need improvements. Quantitative description of an airway tree consists in application of several steps: segmentation of the tree, skeletonization, decomposition and anatomical labelling, cross section generation and finally quantitative measurements. Each step needs to use different kinds of image processing algorithms. The most works were performed on different segmentation strategies, however skeletonization algorithms are still not enough tested and they require attention. Moreover, skeleton has very large impact on the quality of quantitative measurement of a bronchial tree. In the paper authors tested three skeletonization methods which are based on thinning - the most popular skeletonization approach. However, each algorithm uses different thinning strategy. The paper presents basic concepts of the algorithms and discussion about their primary features based on acquired results from real human CT images.
- ArtykułOtwarty dostęp4’ 33’’ - John Cage’s utopia of music(2016) Palmowski, MichałThe present article examines the connection between Cage’s politics and aesthetics, demonstrating how his formal experiments are informed by his political and social views. In 4’33’’, which is probably the best illustration of Cage’s radical aesthetics, Cage wanted his listeners to appreciate the beauty of accidental noises, which, as he claims elsewhere, “had been discriminated against” (Cage 1961d: 109). His egalitarian stance is also reflected in his views on the function of the listener. He wants to empower his listeners, thus blurring the distinction between the performer and the audience. In 4’33’’ the composer forbidding the performer to impose any sounds on the audience gives the audience the freedom to rediscover the natural music of the world. I am arguing that in his experiments Cage was motivated not by the desire for formal novelty but by the utopian desire to make the world a better place to live. He described his music as “an affirmation of life – not an attempt to bring order out of chaos nor to suggest improvements in creation, but simply a way of waking up to the very life we’re living, which is so excellent once one gets one’s mind and desires out of its way and lets it act of its own accord” (Cage 1961b: 12).;John Cage

- ArtykułOtwarty dostępAbout accuracy of calculating deviations of plumbing lines in the region of international research geodetic polygon of the Western Alps(2015) Tretâk, Kornilìj Romanovič; Dvulìt, Petro Dmitrovič; Babìj, Lûbov V'âčeslavìvna.Praca dotyczy niektórych metod obliczania odchylenia linii pionu w aspekcie prawidłowości obliczania wartości oraz możliwości wykorzystania wysoko dokładnych modeli geopotencjału do obliczania odchyleń linii pionu. Podjęto próbę określenia rzędu wartości pierwszych poprawek Mołodeńskiego z wykorzystaniem przybliżenia wysokości quasi-geoidy i odchylenia linii pionu w regionie górskim w międzynarodowym obszarze badań geodezyjnych w rejonie Alp Zachodnich. Uzyskane różnice między prawdziwymi i obliczonymi składowymi odchyleń linii pionu można wyjaśnić błędami astronomicznych wyznaczeń składowych odchyleń linii pionu podlegających wpływowi zerowego i pierwszego przybliżenia pola anomalii. Różnice między modelowymi i prawdziwymi składowymi odchyleń linii pionu można uzasadnić nieuwzględnieniem wpływu strefy centralnej pola anomalii.

- ArtykułDostęp ograniczonyAccelerating SELECT WHERE and SELECT JOIN queries on a GPU(2013) Pietroń, Marcin; Russek, Paweł; Wiatr, KazimierzThis paper presents implementations of a few selected SQL operations using the CUDA programming framework on the GPU platform. Nowadays, the GPU’s parallel architectures give a high speed-up on certain problems. Therefore, the number of non-graphical problems that can be run and sped-up on the GPU still increases. Especially, there has been a lot of research in data mining on GPUs. In many cases it proves the advantage of offloading processing from the CPU to the GPU. At the beginning of our project we chose the set of SELECT WHERE and SELECT JOIN instructions as the most common operations used in databases. We parallelized these SQL operations using three main mechanisms in CUDA: thread group hierarchy, shared memories, and barrier synchronization. Our results show that the implemented highly parallel SELECT WHERE and SELECT JOIN operations on the GPU platform can be significantly faster than the sequential one in a database system run on the CPU.
- ArtykułDostęp ograniczonyAcceptance testing of web applications with Test Description Language(2014) Olek, Łukasz; Alchimowicz, Bartosz; Nawrocki, Jerzy RyszardAcceptance tests are usually created by a client after a part of a system is implemented. However, some methodologies propose the elaboration of test cases before implementing a system. This approach increases the probability of system implementation that fulfills requirements, but may be problematic for customers and testers. To allow acceptance testing in such conditions, we propose to define test cases by recording them on an interactive mockup (a low detailed user-interface prototype). The paper focuses on Test Description Language, a notation used to store test cases.
- ArtykułOtwarty dostępAccessing Earth’s heat using Geothermal Radial Drilling for borehole heat exchangers(2017) Śliwa, Tomasz; Kucper, MarekSometimes there is not enough room for drilling vertical borehole heat exchangers. Hence, the idea of slant boreholes emerged. They can provide access to a rock mass, being an underground heat reservoir, located beneath infrastructure. To optimize the average value of thermal conductivity and use those layers in a given geological profile that possess best properties in the view of thermal efficiency, Geothermal Radial Drilling is used, being a very efficient technology. A GeoDrill 4R drill rig, specially designed for the Geothermal Radial Drilling technology, enables drilling at an angle between 30 and 65 degrees, which in turn, together with data on the geological profile, allows for designing the layout of exchangers so as to obtain longest possible section of a given exchanger within most energetic layers. The paper includes a description of a few investments which use Geothermal Radial Drilling for heating purposes. It also presents a comparative study between Geothermal Radial Drilling and conventional vertical borehole exchangers.

- ArtykułOtwarty dostępAccuracy of determining the volume of road salt storage based on surveying with reflectorless total stations(2010) Kocierz, Rafał; Ortyl, Łukasz; Mołoń, RobertThis article presents the possibility of using reflectorless total station in the process of determining the volume of road salt. Salt of this type is stored in warehouses intended for storage of loose materials that are a part of the road infrastructure of the country. In order to perform this task, the test of three different Leica reflectorless distancemeters was conducted by carrying out surveys for a specially prepared sample of salt. The possibilities of surveying the distance for various sight line lengths and different angles of incidence of the beam on the surveyed object were examined. After the conducted test, one of the reflectorless total stations was used as an alternative tool for the hitherto surveying the inventory of road salt volume carried out using the measure to prism method. The comparative works were carried out in a warehouse located at the town of Rudno near the A-4 motorway, which was owned by the company STALEXPORT Transroute Autostrada S.A. The surveys of station poles at the salt dump were conducted on the same day, for the two instruments independently, using the polar method. The first survey was performed with the use of the ELTA R55 instrument, with the measure to prism method, and the second one with TCR407Power total station in a reflectorless mode. As a result of this test, data were obtained, which became grounds for determining the volume of the salt mass using two models reflecting the measured surface in three different computational programs. The values of the volume determined from both surveys for different models and programs were compared in order to verify the compatibility of the results with a criterion provided in the form of the values of the relative error of determining the volume, which were specified in the Survey Manual of Ministry of Heavy Industry. Additionally, a survey of the volumetric weight of road salt was carried out, which allowed the calculation of the total mass of road salt stored in the warehouse. The obtained result was compared with the inventory present in the records.
- ArtykułOtwarty dostępAccuracy of land parcel area measurement(2012) Kwinta, AndrzejIn connection with direct subsidies to agriculture in European Union, each year hundreds of thousands of measurements of crops and allotments are performed. Area measurements are performed directly on site using geodetic or aerial photogrammetry methods. It is widely used for the control of the hand (navigation) satellite receivers. The receiver has recorded a trace of movement along the land. This measurement method is quick and not expensive. Comparison of results of measurements made in this type of technology with the allowable tolerance of an area shows that the theoretically obtained accuracy is sufficient. In real measurements a main source of error is improper identification of crops borders which – in many cases – are ambiguous.
